Hi David you should be able to get a No Standing Charge (NSC) tariff from us-which one are you interested in and I'll confrm. There's only a small number of restrictions on NSC and its usually meter-type related so no issues if you have a standard 1-rate meter.
Mrs Richards if you e-mail details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com I promise we will look into this for you. Sorry for your inconvenience.
Thanks David“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Scottish Power. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -

Can anyone see any drawbacks?
It doesn't say if there is a standing charge or not with Scottish power; does anyone know for sure?
Ignore the suggestion not to switch to SP. You will always find someone with a gripe about any supplier on t'internet.
(The poster has their own thread that addresses their own issues here:

If the comparison site is showing a particular supplier & tariff is cheapest for you, then switch to it unless you have a good reason not to.
It doesn't matter how the cost is made up (i.e. with a standing charge or not) but what is cheapest overall. Having said that, the comparison site should give details of how that a standing charge applies.
Martin says don't base your decision on the promise of any cashback. Cashback may not materialise and is only guaranteed after it is in your own bank account. Think of cashback as the cherry on the cake if you do eventually get some.0 -
I'll probably go with Scottish Power, i don't see whats wrong with choosing the best cashback deal, they shouldn't promise it if they aren't going to pay it. I'll post on here if I don't get the cashback. Presumably I'll get the option of which tariff when I get the welcome pack?
I've just had a look at Scottish Powers website, its annoying you can't find what their tariffs are without filling in your details. As I'm going to go via money supermarket thats not much use and the problem with money supermarket is that although they say its cheaper, they don't say how or why its cheaper. What i need is the actual unit rates I will be paying.0 -

I am unable to switch suppliers due to living in Private Accommodation! However, I do have a query which I hope someone can help me with?
My Electricity is provided by the Landlord by Pre-Payment Cards (cardboard/paper type) which we purchase direct from the Landlord, we are unable to find out what rate per KWH the Landlord pays but, we pay 20p per KWH which I am led to believe is way above what the majority of suppliers charge! Although, I've been informed private landlords are only allowed to charge 20% above what they are directly charged from the supplier! How or where do I get advise on how to correct this situation??? It is costing £30 per week on average at present but that is using my supply with several restrictions ie: no washing done no heating only 2 hours in the morning & 4 hours in the evening so not very comfortable!!! Any advise welcome & will be much appreciated thank you all.0 -
I think you'll maybe have to challenge the Landlord to show you the bills from the supplier to see how much hes paying, maybe get citizens advice to intervene for you. Depends how worried you are about upsetting the landlord and denying him his profit. I'd guess you are paying at least double.0

You are getting fleeced by the landlord - average contracts for domestic should not be more than 11p-13p - if you are charged 20p then you are looking at a 50% increase. I would ask to see the contract/bills, otherwise definately see citizens advice- this is profiteering of the worst kind0

I don't know who advised you but they were wrong.
Landlords may not profit from the reselling of gas or electricity.
Your landlord may be being supplied on a business tariff, especially if some of the energy supplied to him is used for business purposes (e.g. a shop)0 -

If you know any supplier that currently supplies electricity at less than 10p/kWh and no other charges (e.g. a standing charge) do let us all know! :cool:0
