I've just been on every single switching site I've ever heard of, trying to change electricity suppliers for our new house. Unfortunately there is a prepayment meter installed, and when I enter this information I get a few different suppliers come up, showing me the savings I could make with them, but none are available to switch to via the sites (and earn cashback). Why is that? Does anyone know...?

Why don't you see if the supplier who give you the best savings are available on cashback sites ie Quidco or Cashbackkings and change through them. They give far better money back than going through the switching links on the switching sites

  • I have tried all of them except energylinx, but they don't offer cashback anyway do they, so no point going through them?
I don't think I can hang on til Friday...

The cheapest supplier is Atlantic, and they don't seem to be on any cashback sites. I would still switch to another company for the cashback, but I've enquired about charges for having the prepayment meter exchanged for another on, and Atlantic is the only company who doesn't charge...
Still - I just don't unbderstand why none of the tariffs are available? I get Scottish Power, British Gas etc come up, but none of them available via the sites!

When I try energyhelpline.com, it allows a switch through them to BG, EDF & nPower (& National Trust which is an nPower product).
Probably not it you are already with one of these suppliers.

BG will exchange a PPM for a credit meter free of charge (subject to passing their credit check)

I spoke to British gas and they said that they may exchange the meter for free, but they may ask for a refundable deposit, which they will hold for a period of 12 months. Can't remember the exact amount, but rather a substantial amount...

All energy suppliers are entitled to ask for a security deposit when granting credit to customers. The size of the deposit may be based on the anticipated usage (and hence the exposure to risk).
The deposit is refundable after 12 months (assuming bills have been paid) plus interest at barclays base rate.

A supplier may elect to waive this request for a security deposit depending on the result of a credit check and/or by the consumer offering to pay monthly by DD (as this reduces their exposure to risk)...but they don't have to.

I didn't pay any deposit when BG removed my PPM for free ... but I did have a good credit record with them at another address which had a credit meter fitted.

I saw a similar interview in a discussion about just how much are the (largely foreign) energy companies making in excess profits (we will never know the British government does not have the powers to raid their offices in USA Germany France etc.etc.)
The European Union should be sending in the shock troopspig_flies.gifpig_flies.gif

The millionaire was in the process of setting up "a transparent not for profit" operation.

Think this must be the bloke you had in mind:

Now let me see - who has tried something like that before?
Ah yes Freddie Laker (For those under 40: he set up one of the first low cost airlines, having made profits by breaking the Russian blockade of Berlin using old planes left over from WW2).
What happened to Freddie - he was put out of business by a cartel run by pillars of the establishment.
(The sort of airlines who are now desperately trying to make mergers to avoid bankruptcy.)

  • Hi ,

whats the best price i am with SSE electric but not with anyone for gas yet just wanna get the best deal set up anyone help ??
  • Hi, this may sound like a stupid question but as I'm new to bill paying I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm paying quarterly and just got my bill through the post, I've done all the price comparison sites and found I can save around £200. Can I switch the bill now, as in I pay the last 4 months at the cheaper provider's rate? Just checking as it would be great to save that £200!

    Thanks.
