Euro Car Parks - Ipswich Fine

Hi,

I've just received an NTO from Euro Car Parks dating back a couple of weeks... I parked my car at Ipswich Interchange Retail Park to visit a few stores and also buy a TV... all of which took a while, and I was parked in total for 2 hours and 34 minutes.

As the allocated time was 2 hours (I didn't see the signs until I finally did some research after receiving the letter), am I still able to use the standard template letter? The grace period is only 10 mins either side, and I parked a good 30 mins outside of that.

Any help would be most appreciated!

The newbies thread is bang up to date and has all the info you need.

You have not received a NTO it's a NTK.

You made a large expensive purchase which takes time, what has the store got to say about helping out with this?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Noted r.e. NTK, thank you!

I'm yet to speak to Currys, but I'll visit them later today and see if they can help on the matter. Failing that, I assume the standard template will be okay to use, especially if I attach a copy of the receipt (minus any personal details)?

"I'm yet to speak to Currys,"

Just spoke to the store, sadly they said "as it's a private company we don't really deal with this".

From reading the Newbie thrread, it appear there are 3 grace periods? 10 mins before and after parking, and 10 mins to leave the car park... Which brings my total time overstayed to about 4 minutes - 2 hours and 34 minutes in total.

Is there anything I should mention in the appeal letter/email before I send?

Who did you speak to at currys ?

did you tell them you want to return the TV?
did they tell you who to complain to? or who owns the land?

have you emailed the CEO yet ?

to tell him you wish to return the TV as the surcharge for parking costs to much.

I have just returned from buying a washing machine from them for one of my properties. They were horrendously short staffed, it was a business to business transaction, they could not find my account, and the chap dealing with it was a trainee and made several mistakes, I was in the store for 90 minutes.

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP after the election, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

If they contracted ECP Currys can deal with this.

There again, maybe Currys are not the landowner. If that's the case, they will know who is. Or maybe all the main stores in the retail park have the authority to cancel PCNs.

Whatever the situation, 'sorry no can do' is not an appropriate answer, it's a fob-off.

Threatening to return the TV sounds a little extreme at first but think about it ... PCNs can get expensive, especially if you were to fight this scam all the way to court. (You might well win, but leave that aside for the moment).

I think it is quite reasonable to make enquiries about returning the TV at the same time as emailing Currys CEO, letting him or her know that the TV is going to have to go back unless this is cancelled. I think this is the fellow:

    alexander.baldock@dixonscarphonegroup.com

This really, really does need cancelling ASAP.
  • Hi all,

Thanks for your advice! I sent the CEO an email on Monday... They responded asking for more details. After speaking to them on the phone they asked for a copy of the letter. I did tell them on the phone, and via email as well that I am only the registered keeper, and to bear in mind I am neither confirming nor denying the driver.

They've said they'll look into it, and speak to the landowner but "can't promise anything". I've stressed a few times I'll return the TV (which is up on the wall, but can be taken down, ha) if unsuccessful.

I also threatened to invoice the CEO on the email personally if for any reason I can't return the TV either.

In the meantime, should I still fire off an appeal? I'll also be writing to my MP.

    Thank you!

Sorry to be a pain, but a postal PCN means I can appeal immediately, right?
