What small DFW things will you do w/c 11/11/19?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Morning all,
Todays list from me
:heart2: make porridge again for breakfasts :heart2:
:heart2: go to the gym - not to do a class just a bit on the treadmill and stuff gentle for my back, its much better but not 100% :heart2:
:heart2: check banking /update cashbook and empty receipts from my purse its been a spendy weekend :heart2: receipt put back in my purse for something we've changed our mind about for xmas
:heart2: make a chicken curry for tonight :heart2:
:heart2: make families lunches for tomorrow
:heart2: wrap some more xmas gifts (and update spreadsheet :heart2:) (will be using reclaimed wrapping paper - not just me being tight but it can't be recycled anyway so would end up in landfill so may as well get as many uses out of it as I can!
That is my starter, take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Morning 1LL. I agree re the wrapping paper. I was in a big shop at the weekend & out of their entire wrapping paper offer, there were just two designs which were recyclable (which weren't very Christmassy) . All the others were plasticised or foiled. I did get some from another shop but it is still a poor choice if you want to avoid plastic. Next time, I'll get my wrap from Oxfam. They have some nice designs & all recyclable.

And morning everyone else,
Have been eating my toast & thinking about the shape of my week. My frugal tasks are going to be based around:
*Keeping budgets updated & as correct as possible.
*Being energy-saving as much as possible, esp with laundry & wearing warm layers.
*Do some batch cooking as I have some useful space in the freezer at last.
*Progress garden clearing & greenhouse tasks.
*Free fitness opportunities such as a few good leaf-raking sessions.
*Continue Christmas preparations, which will mostly be centred around progressing gifts, starting wrapping & possibly writing cards.
*Finish knitting gift for December birthday. Am more than halfway, but only just.
*Do at least 10 'Annoying Jobs' this week. I did a couple at the weekend & felt so pleased with myself, I will capitalise on this & do a few more.
*Bake as necessary to keep our bread supplies stocked & for some low-cost (actually NO - cost, as I have all the ingredients in) snacks such as cheese oatcakes or mini-muffins.
*Prepare a folder of various financial documents ready for some significant activity in the next two or three weeks.
*Update my dfw diary - I am intending to discuss job lists this week, as I've changed how I tackle mine.
OK, must crack on.
Wishing everyone a calm & productive week ahead,

Morning all

Thanks for starting us off 1LL
Foxgloves, I have serious freezer space envy :rotfl:
Taplady, of course we don't mind you joining in
We always welcome new people. Hopefully you will stay with us.
Today's list:
Check banks (Done)
Peg washing on line and put in another load
Fold dry washing on airer and put it away
Label up and take some items to my sales unit. I will walk and use my trolley, as there isn't anything too big. I need the exercise, and walking is free!
Fridge survey needed - I know there is mashed potato in there that I need to convert into fishcakes. Other than that, I have carrot and coriander soup made yesterday from the last of the HG carrots, some cooked chicken, some ham, half a spinach pie, salad items, chicken stock and various other things. The next few days' meals will involve using all this up! They will have to, as there is no chance of fitting any of it into the freezer  and equally no chance of any of it being wasted!
A bit of garden tidying later as it looks (fingers crossed) as though it might be a nice day

Welcome to the thread Taplady its a great here! Hope you stick with us.
Foxgloves yes lots of the paper we saw whilst shopping at the weekend wasn't recyclable, I think its at least 4 yrs since I bought any paper (and I still have un-used rolls) I'd seen some presents wrapped last year online in brown paper with a ribbon as Taplady mentioned and thought that looked very pretty. For now though I'll continue to shop from home and re-use when I can
Met up with a lovely friend for a walk this morning (rather than a coffee as I seem to have had quite a few of those in this last week!) and she's offered me her kids old electric keyboard, well I'd been looking online for a basic keyboard for ds2 to maybe start out with as he loves his music so this is just perfect timing for us! Its great because over the years we've passed things between the two families and saved us all money over that time.
I've barely touched my list as other things came up but I have also
:heart2: wrapped something in a reclaimed postal bag to send to a fellow mse'r - post office was closed as I came past after lunch so will leave it in the car and post it tomorrow instead.
:heart2: I've been to lldl and used the £10 off a £40 shop voucher from the Metro that my mum had picked up for me after seeing it on mse (usually shop at aldee but thought it was a good idea to swap for a week) She actually got me two so I will go back and get some xmas bits to get up to the £40 mark again - along with storecupboard stuff like pasta, rice, cereal, mayo, porridge etc

I just had a good result in wilko which I wanted to share!
OH broke his cafetiere so went to get a new one. Small one (350ml) £5, large one (800ml) £6. As he always has large coffees thought it was a no brainer. Got to the till and it scanned at £10. Now the old me would have wimped out of saying anything but the new me questioned it! Assistant went off to check and turns out the one I'd picked up (whilst matching the description on the price label on the shelf) had been put in the wrong place. I was fully prepared to say "I'll leave it" but instead the assistant marked the price down to £6!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,435.00
Total paid off - £10,165.89 (65% paid off)0
