  • to be honest, we were encouraged by the CWU to immediately post photos on social media as part of the campaign to gather support, this may have now backfired, even if the union lose in court tuesday it isn't over to fight for our rights, just delayed

    May?
Think of how it could look to the general public.
If due to keeping the mail secure, RM have rules in place to prevent mail being opened in the sorting office and if people see this being ignored and the fact that the RM doing this appear to have no problem being filmed doing so, I'm sure that more than a few people will start wondering what rules may be getting broken when there are no camera on them.

If the union management think it's okay for their workers to blatantly break rules when it suits them then maybe that union management needs a change.

I put 2 letters in the post box this morning. One is something Barclaycard want with posting as the only option, so a freepost address has been supplied. The other is to a solicitor, again, postal service necessary for the contents.

IMO RM do a pretty decent job.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

RM is useless for parcel delivery for me (and most of the working population) as all that happens is a 'collect at the sorting office' card is left.

The problem is the lazy !!!!!! at the sorting office are open from 8 to 12 Monday to Saturday and the vast majority of the town is on the 7am train to London so it will be a week before you get your parcel.
No problems with RM service here. My local delivery office is open M-F 0730-1800, Sat 0730 - 1230 and Sun 1100 - 1500, much better than the main courier depots. Also my local post office, which is also where Parcel Force would leave anything, is open M-Sat 0600 - 2200 and Sun 0700 - 2100.

If I belonged to a union that encouraged members to do something that would both have a ballot ruled invalid and possibly lead to members facing disciplinary action then I would be calling for the resignation of the union leaders.

If the leaders are really this stupid then they are never going to negotiate effectively on behalf of their members.

it is the norm for people to get their mail if they so wish to do, something that's yes against the company rules without a manager signing it ok, but it's always been done,
though not sure what i've drip fed people,
i post as i see it,
i could be posting something that doesn't happen everywhere but i'm only privvy to my own d/o,
    i'll quit now if irritating,
i only wanted to let people know that the fat corporate people that are ripping the company to bits are to blame,
we are just simple working class people, as are most higher up in the CWU chain who know very little in the legalities of the strict UK laws in fighting fair and square,
yes those at the top should know better, but it is what it is

thanks for everyone's input, and i'll keep on fighting for my rights
Can you not see that it's wrong for people (that is RM employees) to 'get their mail if they so wish' IF IT'S AGAINST RM RULES?
    Really? Can't you? :wall::wall::wall:
You - imho - drip-fed information because you didn't say up-front that the CWU advised employees to post on social media as part of the campaign to gather support.
    But that's my opinion.

    This ^^^°.
    In spades.
I think you should be questioning your union guidance.
    I really do.

it ISN'T against RM rules to pick up you're own mail as stated several times so far IF you get permission, but as we work in a usually trusted environment it's never enforced to seek permission,
but because they've seen a legal loophole to exploit the situation they are taking it, by the way, we are company ruled bound to also use trolley to deliver where physically possible, RM don't enforce this either as it will add hours to an average delivery duty, but now "if" we all decided to use them, they would probably deem this IA!

you get my drift as to what company i work for

The curse of social media again. But then again I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't staged by RMG themselves. I've had the misfortune of having an ex RMG manager be my line manager. If he was typical of a RMG manager then I can understand lots of what the OP was saying re bullying.

the typical RM manager can be an enigma, they can be friendly 1 day and nasty the next, i guess sh*t rolls down hill and they get it from their bosses, but there is no dignity respect or compassion shown when on the offensive

Royal Mail is arguing in court that the postal ballot was not conducted correctly and is therefore not valid.

I suspect this is all part of the CWU's master plan. They KNOW that strikes over Christmas would be hugely damaging. They get a massive Yes vote but get to blame nasty Tory anti-union laws when the court over turns the ballot. Didn't the same happen last time?

Looking a bit closer at this and it appears that RM want posties to work the hours they are paid for..... CWU is apparently outraged by this.

Hello CWU..... Its the 1970's they say they want there Spanish Practices back!!

Last year, RM delivered approximately 14.4 billion letters.
Last December, they delivered about 164 million parcels so no, it's not just me that uses RM on a very regular basis.

Yes, the amount of mail they handle has dropped but are you honestly saying that 14+ billion letters is insignificant?

    Great.

So why has revenue fallen, profits halved and the share price fallen through the floor?

Perhaps it is because their business is unsustainable in the long term, particularly with unrealistic demands from employees.
