The UK postal operator reported an 8 per cent decline in letter volumes in the nine months to December 23 (2018)
To repeat, an 8 percent decline in nine months!
What on earth do you send? If I ever sell anything on eBay it is rare that RM is the cheapest method, but even when it is and I do use them it turns out to be free because the numpty postman doesn't get a signature and they have to refund the full cost.
And you know "a great many people who still send postal letters"? Really? I suspect that says more about your age than the people you know.
Last year, RM delivered approximately 14.4 billion letters.
Last December, they delivered about 164 million parcels so no, it's not just me that uses RM on a very regular basis.
Yes, the amount of mail they handle has dropped but are you honestly saying that 14+ billion letters is insignificant?0 -
RM is useless for parcel delivery for me (and most of the working population)
You can keep on making sweeping statements as often as you like but unless you are prepared to back up those statements, they are simply your personal opinion.
Unless it's an urgent delivery, I have no problem with having to wait to get to my local delivery office and if for some reason I can't get there, I can arrange to have the package delivered to my local post office or to a neighbours house and collect it from there.0 -

I much prefer Royal Mail to most other parcel services.
With RM if i’m not in (which is often because I have a job) then they leave a card and I go to the delivery office which is nearby with free parking and open convenient hours.
If Yodel or Hermes or DPD come when i’m not in they either try again the next day (no use as I will still have a job then), maybe leave it with a neighbour, who may or may not be in when I need my parcel, or most likely they will throw it over the back gate whatever the weather!0 -
going back to the ballot results,
no matter the huge mistakes made, it would have still been a resounding vote of no confidence in those who run RM,
the CEO doesn't even reside in the UK and hardly attended any of the meetings with the CWU (since may) and apparently even the process of mediation was done in separate talks.
now this may sound mercenary, IA in nov/dec is the peak time to negotiate on the CWU's part, forget the general election,
we had already voted long before that was announced, RM only offered an olive branch once the GE was announced, with out any pre-conditions but under the condition we postpone any strike action?
only when they realised both were playing on a sticky wicket would they agree to talk, prior to that, they didn't want to negotiate,
again, i reiterate we are not after a pay rise or anything untoward
we are asking them to stick to an agreement signed in 2017 which we voted in favour of that they have now started to rip up0 -

If a signature isn't obtained for a signed for service then no, you shouldn't be claiming a full refund. In that instance you are only entitled to the difference in cost between standard post and the signed for equivalent.
It's only for undelivered or damaged mail that you should claim the full cost of postage back.0 -
But your fellow employees have allowed RM management to wriggle out of that vote of no confidence.
to be honest, we were encouraged by the CWU to immediately post photos on social media as part of the campaign to gather support, this may have now backfired, even if the union lose in court tuesday it isn't over to fight for our rights, just delayed0 -

Then the union are even more stupid than the RM employees who did it.
Are they unaware of RM rules?
Do they think RM management are stupid?
Is it a disciplinary offence to retrieve their mail without permission?
'may have backfired'? :rotfl:
You appear to be drip-feeding information which is irritating.
You posted here asking for support but even though I personally have only good things to say about RM, I'm finding it hard to sympathise about this particular issue.0 -

it is the norm for people to get their mail if they so wish to do, something that's yes against the company rules without a manager signing it ok, but it's always been done,
though not sure what i've drip fed people,
i post as i see it,
i could be posting something that doesn't happen everywhere but i'm only privvy to my own d/o,
i'll quit now if irritating,
i only wanted to let people know that the fat corporate people that are ripping the company to bits are to blame,
we are just simple working class people, as are most higher up in the CWU chain who know very little in the legalities of the strict UK laws in fighting fair and square,
yes those at the top should know better, but it is what it is
thanks for everyone's input, and i'll keep on fighting for my rights0
