I agree, i have a santander RS, due to end shortly and it is bit annoying as i prefer to pay all my bills beginning of the month. I seem to recall with santander you had to setup a SO to pay it in so at least i didn't have to remember to go pay it on x day of the month.
I've only just opened my Coventry RS so i might well setup a SO for that too in a couple of months as atm i'm temporarily got 3 RS but one of them the bank has stopped for new customers and i'm not sure i'll continue with the Santander one as i can pay more into Coventry so seems not worth it so once those 2 accounts mature, i might then setup a SO when i know i'll have funds to pay in whereas at the moment i'll have to do a bit of juggling to get the money each month.
How do you know the date they opened your account? I know when i got the letter but don't think it said when they opened it?

I could not find it either on any correspondence. However if you log in to your account you can find the maturity date under: Account admin/Account details/Your account will have matured by.............
So is the opening date exactly a year before that or a day less than a year before it?
They do have a very good message service so it would do no harm to ask the question.0 -

The account opening date is shown in your online servicing - once of course you get through the login process including reading the grid card e.g. type in what number is in A4, D5, C3 etc etc!0 -
Thanks for the info above folks!
Someone said Coventry like to send lots of letters - they weren't kidding! I lost count, but the good news is that it was all straightforward getting online once all the letters came through.
All good and easy so far!0 -
Can this account be closed early? A strange question but financially I'm stretching myself a bit this year and might need money at point.0

"After the 14 day ‘cooling off period’, you can take out money or close your account if you need to, but there will be a charge equal to 30 calendar days’ interest on the amount withdrawn. Notice for withdrawal/closure cannot be given. The charge will be deducted from the balance of the account at the time of the withdrawal."0 -

And they are a bit loose with their use of personal data.
I did an online internal isa transfer with them and they sent me a letter which on the back had
My full name
Full account number
Home address
Date of Birth
National insurance number
Mobile phone number
Home phone number and
Email address.
I was not impressed at them putting so much personal data in a letter in the post which wasn’t even relevant as I was just moving funds internally! Talk about opening you up to potential ID fraud.0 -

Yes pearl, you can....they charged me 68p for withdrawing the initial deposit. Did it over the phone after difficulty opening the account online, despite not needing initial ID. Just couldn't believe the amount of faff.0 -
Thanks, will check my account when i next login for the opening date, if i don't see it, i'll send them a message and see what they say,
Once i logged in, i set my account to email instead of post so hopefully this reduces the number of future potential lettersEspecially as the postman doesn't always push the letters all the way through the letter box....
