Okay .. it seems like I made the right decision according to the input on here . I looked on you tube and have a rough idea what I'm getting
I'm a bit put out tho , about the Mac situation . TBH , I would've preferred to get the programme installed on a Mac and would've paid for the programme that was the exact same thing as windows.
Too many conflicting answers . Even Apple couldn't give me a straight answer. You have all been helpful, don't get me wrong , but it looks like I've taken the right approach by getting the dell laptop.
I'll get one of those office licenses and hopefully it works.
The idea is to take the course I need to get me back on track . I'll just use the laptop for that solely for practice and homework .
If I can get through that , then I could hopefully buy a new laptop if I need one in terms of employment . May not need one .
It's annoying in terms of my employment . I used to use 'helpdesks' checking on jobs that are completed and need to be done. I used 2 different types of DHL systems to send various shipments out. Plus ups
The rest of the time , it was sending emails and working out figures on a spreadsheet for departments using Xcel.
I typed notices out for home use and made cvs..very slowly .
I'll leave it there for now..0 -
if the license does not work, you can legitimately always contact Microsoft who will either turn you away, or give you a new key. If MS want to invalidate the key it is easy or them and well within their power, while that key still works it is legitimate, or MS are being negligent - my take on it, but others will will you differently
Think that laptop will do you proud.
There will probably be free Office courses on youtube. Another way to learn is to pick an A4 form or invoice and duplicate it in word including the boxes, spaces and word positioning as you will learn new stuff
On ebay you can purchase word for mac too.
GDB2222, this post started over 2 months ago, and recommended virtual box and the quickest and cheapest way to get started.
another casualty, as GDB2222 mentioned 'mouse'. My laptop does have a trackpad, which may get touched a few times a year, but my mouse does all the work. You may be a mouse person too?0 -

Thanks That. If the laptop is good and the key is fine ,then that's good enough for me . When I go to the job club once a week, it's all laptops with mouse. TBH, I don't like the mouse. I tend to start off with it but end up using the trackpad. When I had my ict induction a couple of days ago it was a desktop with a mouse .
Thanks for the tips .will take those onboard ..0 -
Okay.. item received yesterday . I only opened up the box just now ..
I hope that you don't mind me giving you an update or 2
So , the laptop looks great so far . Yes a few marks as expected .
It has the Dell power supply which has a nice blue fluorescent light at the tip . I guess the thing to do is to charge it for a few hours and see what gives . So far suitably impressed .
Wish me luck ...0 -
So, after charging for a few hrs till now 9.30 pm, I decided to take charger out and fire up this laptop.
So far I have ' invalid partition table!' On a black screen ..
..' press any key to reboot !' Done that . And nothing .
What am I doing Wrong ?
'No boot device found . ' ...0 -

Unless there’s a disc in the DVD drive or a USB stick plugged in, you are doing nothing wrong. It’s sold with Windows on it?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

No . Nothing . Just a blank screen with partition message .
Will probably have to send them an email tomorrow
If you have any ideas in the meantime ...0 -
I managed to do 'f12'
I then have boot mode set to: legacy; secure boot off
Then there are 3 sections
Legacy boot
U e f I boot
Other options . Too much mow as I'm off to bed .
More help needed ..0 -
After sleeping on it not literally of course , I sent an email asking for help. I didn't mention f12 . I'll see what they come up with0
