Thanks for being honest and realistic, @Coupon-mad. This is the end of this for me, I’ll pay up and move on. I’m happy it’s over.
I will, however, comment on the CoP when it’s out and also write to my MP again as she asked me to do when I wrote to her when all this began. I think this is all I can do now.
Good luck with your ongoing fight against these scammers. I know you’ll bring them down eventually.4 -
I wouldn't know where to start and I don't think I have the energy anymore. This took a lot and came down to the luck of the draw on the Judge. It's not consistent, in any way predictable or fair.
Please do not give up. This judge may well have previous. Your complaint/appeal could be the straw which breaks her back.

She said the signs were fair and adequate,
Perhaps, perhaps not, it is urely a matter of opinion. Have you read this?

IMO signs which contain hundreds of words, eight foot up, in very small print are not fit for purpose

I am sorry that you lost your case. Fluttering ticket cases are usually dismissed by the judge and it is unusual to see this happen.
What does annoy me about this is the disparity with how this transgression is treated by council run car parks as opposed to PPC's who will pursue these through the courts. A friend of mine received a ticket in similar circumstances from a council owned car park and it was cancelled upon production of evidence that she had paid for parking.
I think you were very unfortunate with the judge that heard your case. The whole purpose of going to court is that the hearing is fair and that you receive a judgmental decision and not a criteria based decision.
To appeal will mean throwing more money at the case with no guarantee of the outcome. You could still write to your MP about your experience and ask for your letter to be forwarded to the Secretary of State for Justice. Explain that you feel that you were treated unfairly and you are unable to appeal due to your financial circumstances.
I believe that when the new CoP is introduced a case like yours will be looked at favourably by an independent Ombudsman. We must make sure than the new CoP is robust enough to make this happen.
As I often say on this forum "karma is a b--ch" and who knows, that judge may receive a PCN and find herself on the receiving end

Honestly, I've lost faith in the system. I'm not willing to spend what little money and time I do have for another roll of the dice. I'd much rather spend what I have of both on my young family.

Yesterday I received the judgement from the Court and the amount I'm ordered to pay the Claimant is a little higher than I expected it to be. It amounts to £200 which is £100 for the original parking charge and £100 for costs. These costs are made up of "£50 fixed costs and £50 court fees". The original Notice of Allocation to the Small Claims Track (Hearing) letter I received back in May said "Unless the claimant does by 4.00pm on the 28 July 2020 pay to the court the trial fee of £25.00..."
So I was expecting the total I must pay to be £175. Where has this extra £25 come from?0
