Even worse, I recently discovered that Jelly Babies don't contain real babies.
  • Who's going to be misled by a description like "vegan cheese"? (Where was it?).

If it's "cheese" a vegan won't be misled (unless somebody's invented non-dairy cheese and that's what the vegan thinks it is: have I missed that invention?) and nor will an omnivore.

I agree it's a stupid description but I can't see anybody being misled.

Could a restaurant sell a 'vegan style' carrot salad wih the carrot replaced with smoked salmon? They're both an orange colour after all.

Reason I ask is that over the past week or so I've been subjected to vegan 'meatballs vegan 'cheese' etc.

It would appear to be that vegans believe that sticking 'vegan' in front of of anything allows then to lie about ingredients. As such can an omnivor do the same with adding 'style' to lie about the contents of a vegan dish?
This is the weirdest thread I have seen in a long time and there are a lot of weird threads on here.

They stick Vegan in front of it to indicate it has no animal products, this lets vegans know this, why is that weird?

Why on earth would you think they lie about ingredient's? What's there to lie about?
  • Somebody once told me that they thought the name of that "gentleman's" magazine Men Only was misleading...
  • I wonder what the owners of the shop concerned would do if you went in then walked off with their ATM?

Tapping on a smart phone with cold fingers in the rain isn't particularly conducive to good punctuation unfortunately....

Anyway it's odd all though not surprising that vegans get upset when they have there narrative challenged as it highlights the tosh they peddle.

Anyway back to my original point why can't vegan/style be used?

There is no such thing as vegan style, something is either vegan or it is not. Perhaps dishes with fake meat in them would be better described with the word substitute added after the word meat, but that is down to the restaurant rather than vegans, many of whom would not bother with what is often a pretty rubbish product.

I have had some excellent vegan meals but none of them have contained any form of meat substitute. One or two have been in vegan establishments but most have been in Indian or Italian places.

They could use “ersatz” instead of “fake”.

Makes it sound a bit posher. :rotfl:

Why are vegans so fragile that basic questions are considered a “rant”?

Yesterday having just run a fast 10k in the cold and wet I was “shamed” when declining nut water in my coffee.

So, for the 3rd? time would a vegan style carrot salad made with salmon be acceptable?

Who cares? Apart from vegans who you don't seem to mind upsetting anyway.

It would probably be OK provided you made it clear that your dish contained fish, not only for vegans and vegetarians but for also anyone with a fish allergy. I would not think anyone doing this would get that many customers as they would quite rightly think you were a loony and would not wish to eat at your establishment.
