Then it was off a previous V5C, so the wrong docref.
https://www.gov.uk/make-a-sornChoose when it starts
Immediately
Use the 11-digit number on your vehicle log book (V5C) to take the vehicle off the road immediately.
On the first day of next month
Use the 16-digit number on your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) to take the vehicle off the road from the first day of next month. You can only use this number once.
If the vehicle isn’t registered in your name you’ll have to tell DVLA it’s off the road by post.0 -
Go to that page.
Click on "Start Now".
You're taken to... https://sorn.service.gov.uk/
Notice what the link just below the V11 ref box says? "I don't have the V11 reminder, just the registration certificate or new keeper supplement". Click on that.
Two radio buttons - "Existing Keeper" and "New keeper (using V5C/2 new keeper supplement document reference number)". Click on that, then the "Continue" button.
And two boxes come up...
"Please type the reference number from the front of your new keeper supplement (V5C/2)" and one for the reg.
See? Eminently possible, and dead easy, from the link you just posted.0 -

Very misleading from my post, they need to change it.0 -

I tried what you posted before asking on here and it don't work. When you put in the details it tells you that DVLA needs to be notified by the previous owner before the car can be sorn.
Exactly! The keyboard warriors on here are spouting hot air and haven't actually tried to do any of what they are suggesting. Yes in theory you can SORN a car by post without a V5 but in practice you cannot unless you are the registered keeper and if you can't achieve that online then you are stuck in limbo for around 5-6 weeks waiting for the RK to be changed over and a new V5 to arrive. In that time you can't declare your car SORN and are completely stuck if that is what you need to do.
When I asked DVLA what about any fines I might get for not having it taxed and insured or SORN'd they told me I'd have to deal with them as I receive them !0 -

Have you actually done that?0
