I've just got a letter saying this will be discontinued next year and I'll be given an Amex Everday Rewards to replace it...

I'm gutted. Bye bye 3%, 2%, 1%...

All for 0.5% up to £5000, then 1%.

You'll get the 5% bonus in the first 3 months though. Anyone else here have it and currently love it? I know it's only for Costco vouchers as rewards but good rates.

Think I know the answer already but any alternatives that come close?

  • They pulled it from new applicants 6 months ago maybe a year now.

Look at other Amex offerings - Nectar, SPG or stick with the rewards card for the MR points.

Does this mean that Costco will stop accepting Amex at the tills?

I don't have the Costco Amex, but I do use Amex at Costco. No other credit cards are accepted there.

    Depends on the contract.

Amex lost the CostCo USA contract a few years ago to CitiBank which means Visa is the only Credit Card accepted.

I imagine we might see something similar here.
  • I use mine a lot but haven't had a letter yet. I assumed it was on the way out once Costco and Amex stopped promoting it.

No. The letter confirms that Costco will continue to accept Amex (at least for now).

    Sorry, SPG is?

Membership Rewards are great if it's for a retailer I'll actually use. 9 out of 10 are useless to me, especially fancy hotel offerings.
  • SPG is Starwood Preferred Guest.

Costco/Amex contract in the UK is apparently ending Mar 2020 and new cards will be sent out in Feb 2020.

Such a shame to lose that extra 1% in costco.

    Starwood Preferred Guest.

Membership rewards can be redeemed for many things but their best value is in Avios and Hotel points.

    Retailer conversions are pretty poor.

    !!!!!!! I haven't had the letter yet.

To be honest, since I stopped doing a lot of expensive travel for work I wasn't really benefiting from the 2% and 3% rates much any more anyway, so once you've accounted for the Costco membership fee (which I wouldn't otherwise have) it won't make a great deal of difference using a lower rate cashback card.

Im due around £150 cashback (voucher) from this next month, did get whisper not long back about it going. My costo membership just renewed this month and didn't mention ending either bit naughty
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
