I'd only pay as long as I could see the footage for myself.

Except with a section 20 the OP can’t place demands or conditions on whether or not he pays. How often do you think you’d be allowed to go and view your cameras
  • Pleased to hear HA is taking this seriously and planning on CCTV.

    Bet flytipping drops immediately

They'd be Web based so you'd log in. If I was paying for CCTV, I'd want some advantage. In my old flat I put my own CCTV up, as I said before, its normally pointless as you can't see who's doing it and you are hoping the council or whoever, would take action.

You would have an advantage though, an area of your shared property that was suffering from fly tipping would be covered with cameras. I’d be very surprised if the council agreed to give all the residents access to the images. That would seem to be a GPDR/Privacy issue.

You could submit regular Subject Access Requests. That would keep them busy.

Good old CCTV eh! The universal solution to all society's ills - not!

To what avail? You can see when you were caught on camera (other people's faces blanked)...

The OP and the other residents would of course end up paying for the extra admin.
  • Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure what Section 20 cannot be used to make 'improvements.' Surely adding CCTV would be classed as an improvement. Of course if the CCTV already existed but stopped working for example then a section 20 could be used because it's maintaining what is already there. I would also think that they could not add the cost to the Service Charge for the same reason.
  • Just to add, Section 20 can only be used for improvements if it says so in your Lease
