A couple, but they're sensible, they strap their bikes to the back of their car and go and ride on tracks and trails out of the way and not dice with motorised traffic.

The experiences i have had of other roads users, i can not be certain that they arent out to deliberately hurt me.

Ironically its usually from people who hold a similar view to you that bicycles shouldnt be on the road.

In modern cities it's the cars that are outdated - huge, expensive, wasteful, expensive, polluting, noisy. We'd all be so much better off (and get to our destination faster) if we all moved to 19th century playthings

I would still be upset if someone was in collision with a car or motorcycle operated by me if it was not my fault not to mention possible follow on concequences.
Yet careless or dangerous cycling affects no one it would seem.
It appears you only consider how things effect you personally and only at the level of pysical injury.

Cars may be polluting, but no more so than horses. In the 19th century, the streets of London and other cities were polluted with vast quantities of horse excrement (and indeed corpses), with attendant flies and grave risks to health.

In which case 3ft or less is adequate as that appears to be the norm that I see with cars overtaking each other. It is often the gap between traffic in different directions on a lot of roads.

But the gap in front of cars on the motorway is often much less than safe (see this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6062990/distance-between-cars).
That doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I don't condone the actions of the driver or any that put lives of other road users at risk but unfortunately it seems a lot of cyclist don't like slowing down and staying with the flow of the traffic.
