PCN issued with incorrect VRM

Was issued a PCN which was left on the windscreen.
Upon attempting to pay the fine online, each attempt yielied an error message that they couldn't find the PCN. After further inspection of the PCN, I can see this is because the VRN on the PCN is incorrect by one letter. Eg; AB45 instead of AC45.
Advice appreciated. I have read the stickies and can't find anything relating to my situation as The car has a permit and therefore don't have to buy a ticket. Apologies if I am being dim about this.
Many thanks.

UKPC I guess? As per their usual trick covered all over the forum?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The company is F1rst Parking.0

OK so wait till day 26 then submit the USUAL appeal online as per the NEWBIES thread but putting in the wrong VRN to make the website open the case for you to appeal.
I suspect you will then get a rejection letter and they will either forget to send you a NTK at all within 56 days, or will take so long tracing your data from the DVLA due to the wrong VRN first go, that they will not be able to hold you liable as registered keeper.
Obviously you are NOT writing an appeal as driver nor pointing out the error!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Excellent, thank you.
In your opinion, are they likely to do any legwork to marry up the wrong VRN to mine, given that I have a parking permit with them? I assume because F1rst Parking took the wrong VRN and then put this on the PCN, that this is their mistake and means they cannot issue another.0 -

Check on MOT status checker to see if the other reg is actually on a car anywhere. If it is, then you may hear no more. If it isn't, then the PPC may start looking to see where they have gone wrong - who knows.
I suspect that the guy deliberately wrote the wrong reg on the ticket in the hope that you would indignantly phone them to tell them that "that isn't the reg of the car I was driving".
Bingo!! They then have the driver's details - much easier for them.0 -

Not if you distract them with an appeal half way through the 56 day period! That's the reason for timing it carefully to get half way...and probably time them out before POPLA.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I've checked on the .gov website and the incorrect VRM doesn't match to another vehicle. No other unfortunate soul will receive the NTK.0

Great, thanks. My plan then will be wait until day 26 and then submit the usual appeal online.
I'm not looking forward to the appeal, from reading on this forum F1rst seem to have a nasty little habit of not letting you submit an appeal online unless you check some sort of box saying you were the driver.
I can see them being difficult.0 -
Upon attempting to pay the fine online,
It is not a fine. It is an invoice from an ex-clamper attempting tp obtain money from you for the damage they allege you caused them when you did what you did. You owe them not one penny unless a judge so orders it which, in this instance, is imo highly unlikely.
Nine times out of ten of these tickets are scams so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra work.
Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.
Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.
