Free trial not allowed from Netflix

Just a warning to everyone out there. Last Christmas my son visited from New Zealand and set up his Netflix account on our TV so he could watch a film. That account has not been used since but today I thought I would trial Netflix to see if I would like to have a subscription. It appears that I am not able to have a free trial on the TV because Netflix says that my household has already had a free trial. It has not. It appears that Netflix marks the device as having being used so even if you bought the TV from someone else, and they had used it for Netflix you will not be allowed a free trial. Seems Netflix is confused between people and devices and who/what is being offered the the free trial.

Your son used your TV and internet to access his existing Netflix account. He must have already had a free trial back in New Zealand.
Netflix worldwide is set to restrict such password sharing even further in the near future...0 -

There was no password sharing. He used my TV to watch something nearly twelve months ago, it has not been used since and now I cannot get a free trial?0

In the early days, there was a relaxed attitude to such behaviour, but it was bound to be curtailed as the service became more popular and mainstream..
Clearly there was, even if it was genuinely the account holder visiting..There was no password sharing.0 -

I repeat there was no password sharing. He used my TV to watch a movie because it would have been a tad difficult to lug a 50+inch TV from NZ. The account was only ever used by him. As far as I know there is no restriction on the number of devices that can be used by a Netflix customer, only on whether they are concurrently streaming. I was hoping to subscribe to Netflix once I saw what was available and whether my broadband was capable, but not now.0
