hi everybody

could anyone tell me whether counselling fees will be accepted if i apply for a DRO?

im currently paying £80 per session once per week.

will these fees be accepted or will they be discounted as they may change if my counselling sessions end or reduce in frequency?

thankyou.

I'm not sure, it may depend on whether you have evidence that the counselling is a necessary expense or something you can do without

It would be helpful to post a full SOA, you may find that this item doesn't have much impact once all the other expenses are set out

I agree - it would need some kind of medical evidence - £80 per week is a lot.

Edit: If you are receiving DLA/PIP, say the 57.50 rate then it is not too much of a stretch to say that you use that for your care needs but it's not enough and requires £20 extra.

A straight £80 per week spend just looks like you're trying to hide £350 per month surplus somewhere.

without the counselling fees i wouldnt be eligible as would have more than £50 spare each month.

i have suffered with depression/anxiety and social phobia for past 40 years. there would probably be a record of this with my gp.

my mental health issues have definitely played a part in me accumulating my debt.

    thanks..

posting your SOA and/or getting professional debt advice (from say CAB) would be a good idea, just to be sure your not eligible, and to formulate a plan to become debt free

I don’t mean this to sound at all judgemental but that is SO much money! My husband has suffered for years with mental health on 2 meds currently and doing well but when he was earning more his private therapist cost £40 Per session (average) and then when he went down hill and our income reduced we stopped that and started at a charity one where he pays £15 per week. Maybe worth having a look around to see if you can get anything like that in your area?
