    56k used to be superfast - amazing speed when you only got 4k or a fantastic 6k, even 8k on dialup.

    The real deal, at least in Italy, was the ISDN, for those who could afford it, capable of an astonishing 64 or 128 Kbps.

    We used to have ISDN at work for data - must have been about 1984 !
    I seem to remember that it cost a fortune to use - and double for 128Kbps

    I had ISDN at home from 1999 until ADSL became available at my local exchange (around 2003 if I recall correctly).

    It wasn't 1984, as the standard wasn't defined until 1988.
