Hope someone can help on this one.
I had 3 calls to 0771 292 7927 made at
18.43.57 for 15 mins 17 secs
19.13.57 for 49 mins 11 secs and
20.13.57 for 4 hours 58 mins 34 secs !!!

The number appears to be a fax which I do not know and as these calls were made on a Friday night i would have been at home (SAGA member) and not even carrying the XDA11.
According to O2 these were for WAP calls over GSM (whatever that means).
I do not have any autodial programs on my phone but it does seem odd!!! that they are all at 3mins 57 secs.
I wonder about the odds of this and what to do now.
Have put it into O2 complaints dept but after 5 calls and 2 letters all you get is
"It is on the bill so you must have made them"
Catch 22 I believe
It has made a bit of a hole in my free calls budget!!!!
I believe there is an "ombudsman" for mobile call operators

It appears the number is o2's WAP access number. WAP is the mobile phones term of the internet. WAP over GSM means that you dialled up via a normal mobile access number (similiar to connecting to the internet via a dial-up (56k) speed modem). There is also WAP over GPRS which is a faster version of WAP (similiar to broadband at home).

If you dial the number it sounds like a fax (as you mention). This fax sound is just your mobile internet (WAP) communicating with o2 and vice-versa. When using WAP you would not hear this - it would only be if you tried to dial it like you would a normal voice call.

Did you use WAP (mobile internet) at around these times? This could be, for example, if you downloaded a ringtone, etc.

    Thanks for this.
I did not know you could dial for WAP. I thought you could only access via control panel i.e. internet or WAP options.
As a SAGA member I would not be downloading the frog???!!!! or any other item.
Seriously though the phone would have been on charge at this time on a Friday night which is what bugs me.
Obviously at some other time I could possibly have activated phone by pressing wrong buttons accidentally but the fact all 3 calls are at 3mins 57 secs is too coincidental to be random if that makes sense.

    Thanks for reply though

Dialling the number as you would a voice call you would only hear the fax type sounds. Accessing via WAP it would still dial this number but as a "data" call and therefore you wouldn't hear it.

I agree with you at 3mins and 57 secs past the hour sounds as though something has been setup to auto connect to WAP to maybe update/synchronize itself!?

If you don't use/need any of these facilities maybe there is a way of disabling it and even (if you wanted) remove the settings for WAP. That way you would know for a fact it couldn't dial it again.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with PDAs (I am most things but not PDA's I'm afraid) and I wonder if this maybe better in the Techie forum?

Could a mod therefore please move this thread?
  • Hi,

Can anyone provide me with the access numbers for calling India free of charge from O2?

I have high street plan 1000 evening and off-peak tariff.

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    DK

That won't work because you need cross-network mins for simply-fone!

I have received reply ex O2 cus services.
Still in a Kaka or Kafka catch 22 mode.
The calls appear therefore you made them!!!

However I have received a £30 credit for my next line rental.
In some ways a result but they are still maintaining I made the calls and I am equally adamant that I could not have done so.
I understand that ther is an "ombudsman " that I can complain to.
    Any body got any details.

Thanks to any MSE out there!!!????
