Hello PMSG and welcome to the Forums. Already a lot of good advice on here - thanks all.

Our Simpler Metering advisors will talk through the above in much more detail so as to better understand how things like the loss of 'top-ups' and reduced off-peak hours will impact your sister.

Meter exchanges under the Simpler Metering project are done without charge.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction PMSG.

Hello PMSG and, as a Company Rep, posting phone numbers and website links is against Forum rules.

Please call the number on the letter we sent your sister or the one on her bills and ask to be put through to Simpler Metering. Alternatively, the Live Chat advisors on our website will be able to give you this information. Both channels are open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 6pm Saturdays.

    Thanks PMSG.

Protect your health in the cold

If you're not very mobile, are 65 or over, or have a health condition, such as heart or lung disease, heat your home to at least 18C (65F), particularly if you have a long-term health condition, such as heart, lung or kidney disease keep your bedroom at 18C all night if you can and keep the bedroom window closed during the day you may prefer your living room to be slightly warmer than 18C.

I was just sat reading this advice in the doctors surgery this morning.

It struck me that some people would have extremely high bills if they followed this advice. Some homes struggle to get to 18 degrees!

It cost me about £280 to heat my home to 22 deg C all day using gas during the winter last year.

This does not include cooking and hot water and standing charges.

    A 1-bed flat?
  • GOV EWD figures just 4 days ago.

Cold weather and flu in the above "age-standardised" stats, that's the 2nd worst in Europe from fuel poverty, 2017-18 that's nearly 46,000 excess winter deaths among people aged 65 and over or 379 older people a day.

    Take care.

    Hi Malc

    Thanks for your help.

Got the number from a very efficient member of your Chat Team.

Rang it and spoke to someone in the Simpler Metering Team who then put me on hold and then left me hanging (12 minutes call). Rang it again and had a very helpful conversation with another member of the Simpler Metering Team. It seems that both E7 and E10 meters are available. I am waiting for some cost estimates for the different metering options to be sent to me by post. The problem will remain with me though as I will have to judge whether or not my old storage heaters will stay warm if they are only heated up during the 7 hour Economy 7 window and any estimates of day and night usage on Economy 7 can only be guesstimates :think::think:

I have also been told that switching between E10 and E7 with a SMETS2 Smart Meter is a software rather than a hardware change and hence can be done remotely - has anybody on the forum got a SMETS2 meter and made such a change?

You could experiment by switching off the heaters individually during the day and see how much warmth there is during the evening
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
