The next check I would do is manually set the door catch and run it with the door slight open and check the spray arms are working.

Protection is needed at the sides to reduce/prevent the water getting out.

"If you'd used salt you'd only have needed 2 dishwashers in 40 years!" - EssexExile

"What makes you say that, EssexExile?" - Debran

"Years of experience in the trade. Or, if you prefer anecdotes, I had a Hotpoint 7821 dishwasher that lasted me over 20 years. My mate had a newer 7822 model but never put salt in it, his died long before mine." - EssexExile

Thanks for the reply. I can see now that you have assumed that because I've had four machines (the first one was in 1974) I have run them all into the ground. No - only the first one bit the dust. The second I passed on to a friend, the third went to BHF charity shop and I still have the fourth one (three years old). None have had a repair. So I don't think that's bad going for 45 years. :)

Now to go back to the OP (because EssexExile and I will be getting our fingers smacked for going off topic) I believe that Slinky had the best advice in the first reply to this thread.

After numerous emails, phone calls and visits the squark factor has worked ! Bosch finally gave Currys an uplift code and my dishwasher has been collected. A refund is going not my credit card.

They still don't agree that I had any rights to an exchange and Bosch have said not to buy another machine from them as they cannot guarantee they can meet my expectations. Surely it's normal to expect a dishwasher to actually wash dishes proper.y ? Anyway, they need not worry - I wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole ( unless it had a very sharp point).

A Miele machine will be delivered on Wednesday.

Persistence works! Bosch used to be the "Miele" of dishwashers, they don't seem to hold that position anymore.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Bosch i hear are being made in China.
For those that wash/rinse items before placing in dishwasher i read a report that this disrupts the functioning of the machine as it senses all is clean!!
Salt must be used whatever the area is and also rinse aid and just use basic Lidl/Aldi tablets as they work out 5p each and clean better than branded ones.
Our 5 year old Beko has died this last week and after the wife cleaned all filters and cleaned arms and checked all was working well (we disabled the door catch) we then saw both arms were not moving.
Decided it was time for a replacement having only paid around £200 for it.
5 years for us who give the machine a hammering is good.
Now looking to spend around same amount and on a larger than 12 place settings.
Amica looks pretty good with 2 year warranty.
Our washing machine is used in the garage and at 9 years old the bearings have gone but we dont hear it :)

I've never understood why people rinse plates etc for a modern dishwasher. If you're going to do that, you may as well hand wash.

I'm waiting on a repairman to come and look at my Bosch which is under 5 years old with less than 2 year's use (we found it was brand new unused in our probate property purchase). Never had any problems with our 2 previous ones. Will look at Miele if we need to replace.

Having spoken with the dishwasher engineer over the phone, our Spanish built 4 year old/2 year use Bosch dishwasher has been diagnosed as uneconomic to repair. Not impressed.
