We live in a hard water area and our cheap Swan dishwasher gets the pots spotless. We do however use two tablets per wash not one as recommended. Have never added salt too it.

Daft question I know but are you loading the machine properly?

We also live in Cornwall and rarely fill the salt dispenser, the only time I do is when I give the dishwasher a treat. I find that putting the gungy baked on meat tins etc in the top tray usually gets them clean, unlike putting them in the bottom tray.
  • Hotpoint dishwasher in hard water area we use salt all the time and Aldi tablets, gets stuff spotless even when put in thick with gunk/dried on grease

What makes you say that, EssexExile?

Years of experience in the trade. Or, if you prefer anecdotes, I had a Hotpoint 7821 dishwasher that lasted me over 20 years. My mate had a newer 7822 model but never put salt in it, his died long before mine.

    Do the arms spin freely?

Is the microfilter in base (under the plate) clean

Has the impeller under the microfilter been checked for foreign objects (normally hides under a fiddly plastic cover with clip on Bosch). check with power off

How is the drain pipe plumbed in - standpipe or combi drain? Post a pic?

Does the Bosch 6 not show any obvious error codes or other unusual indicators at all?

I found this guide (which it won't let me link for some reason, homeappliancegeek[dot]com/what-do-the-different-dishwasher-symbols-mean) that explains a number of different errors, so I wonder if there's something not so obvious that is being overlooked on the machine? Granted that guide doesn't have your exact model, but sounds like there's some things to look out for.

Also surprised to hear how soft the water is in Cornwall. I'm in Bristol, and it feels like I have to de-scale my kettle on a monthly basis, the water is that hard!

No error codes showing at all. I remember hard water when I lived in London - kettle fur and scum all round the bath ! Cornish water is incredibly soft.

Well, it's not overloaded, everything is rinsed under the tap first and neatly stacked in the racks - so I think so.

The arms spin well. The inside looks clean - hasn't had time to get dirty as its new. The drain pipe pushes down into rigid upright pipe - same system as I had for the previous Miele washer. It's draining properly - the engineer checked when he came in the week.

Yes to both questions. In fact, since the engineer re-set the sensors to increase the program details it gets VERY hot.
