BTW I was told once by a Chinese friend that the term Oriental was not politically correct - she said it wasn't a good term for people and she didn't appreciate it.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

OP,
What you say is fine, but, from your list
Vietamese fine
Japanese fine
and the others fine except....
Hong Kong, AFAIK there is no official title such as Hong Konger or Hong Kongese. HK is certainly multi cultural/ethnic but the overwhelming majority are Chinese or Han Chinese, their language Cantonese is spoken in southern China.
So *if* you are from HK and your family is native to HK then I feel you are being pedantic, because like it or not your ethnicity is chinese.
I agree it is stupid and wrong to refer to a Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Thai or Laotian as "chinese" and it is something I don't do. I always ask where someone is from, and if that doesn't work (i.e they say I'm from London) I'll ask where their parents/grand parents are from.0 -

or the 5th time or the 20th time and we dont all go saying jimmy every minute.
Ive come to the belief that all the irish jokes abt them being thick and the scottish jokes abt them being tight was started by a thick tightfisted englishman. Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

You are definitely not going to like DWs grandmother then ... she used to be very polite and talk about people from the far east as 'oriental' but her brain was never quite with it because she kept talking about 'the ornamentals' .. don't be offended she also talked about her 'ulsters', thought the army was full of 'shoulders' and she was 'registrated' blind.
The only issue I have is that 'oriental' may be todays PC word but tomorrow that may change to something else. We just can't keep up ... whats wrong with the generic term 'earthling'.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -

Because Earthling is detrimental to the other more highly inteligent species in our galaxy. We wouldn't want them to be upset by other distant galaxys mistakenly refering to all species in ours as Earthlings now, would we????? :rotfl:0 -

My dad is a farmer, so people always immitate him as if he has a west country accent. Erm, he's actually Lincolnshire born and bred (along with the generations before him) and doesn't speak with a west country accent. Nor do any of his other farming friends in Lincolnshire.
