I Am Not Chinese!!!!

Options
People's ignorance really bugs me.

Do they think that China is the ONLY oriental place on Earth?!

HEeeeellllloooooooooo.......there is also Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia etc etc....

Soooooo STOP labelling every oriental person CHINESE!!

I dont speak their language. I certainly dont come from that country. (BTW i have no problem with China or Chinese ppl FYI)

So UNLESS you know for sure what country I (or any other oriental person) come from....DONT call me (us) Chinese! We PREFER oriental. Now I cant always tell from looking at an oriental person, what part of Asia they come from so i dont expect anyone else to either. But for goodness sake, just go with the term Oriental as opposed to Chinese.

Now to all the people that dont want to offend oriental ppl....stop refering to us as "That chinese friend of yours", "the chinese girl/boy over there"....P**S Off....i aint chinese.

My friends know this irritates me ...so if anyone ever says "Your chinese friend look hot".....they say "SHE'S NOT CHINESE!!!" Hahaaaa....good on you maties! :D :T

Rant over, but very much needed cos I am (and lots of other people i know) are sick of this 'Chinese' grouping business.

I'm certainly not from china! But I'm sure you already established that from my earlier post. ;)

I'm from one of the other Asian countries that I listed.

It's just soo annoying as it happens sooooooooooooo often.

Well - all listed are beautiful places - much nicer than the "sunny UK" - so regardless of what some prats say, you are the luckier one!

Slightly different vein, but I was nicknamed "Posh" and still am, because I know how to speak English and can pronounce my T's - the shame.........

Well I used to get a bit exasperated when people see an oriental face and immediately assumed that the person is JAPANESE .....

I get annoyed when English people try to do cringeworthy impersonation of my Scottish accent - wasn't even funny the first time!!!

Haha....labelled Posh....well it's much better than being labelled common!!

I was born here. And I sometimes get: "Gosh your British accent is brilliant!", or...."Your english is very good!!" Eff off!!! haha....Im sure they meant to be 'complimentary' but sometimes i find this very patronising. My parents just say "think of it this way, you are probably much more educated than most ppl in this country."

I wasn't born here. So I tell people that I have been practising my English (accent and all) for the last 24 years ....... :)

Incidentally, I also do a great German accent!

I'm Irish with a tongue twister of an Irish name. When I was younger I ran off and lived in Italy for a while. Some Italians...mostly the older ones if I am honest - found my name just too difficult to even try...so they referred to me as the English girl. When I said I was from Ireland they just said "it's the same as England" and carried on regardless. Eeeek!!!

Then later when I moved to England I had a "boss" (actually an ignorant prat) who insisted that I was British and not Irish because I was born north of the border. So, according to him, if you are from England you are English, from Scotland you're Scots, from Wales you're Welsh, but from N.Ireland you are British. This judgement on my national status even occurred after the Good Friday agreement.

Much earlier, in my teens, I bogged off to Belgium for quite a few months - my parents thought Belgium and France were the same place. Later I went to Singapore and Malaysia on holiday...yep they thought it was China!! On a later holiday I went to Japan...yep, they wondered why I was going back to China...!!!!!

I also spent quite a long time in the states...they were very understanding of my being Irish and how it is different to being English.

I think I know how you feel Chaching.
