yeh I know what you mean.

On a similar note, my Asian friend, who works in a call centre in LONDON, says that customers immediately assume that they have gotten through to India when she gives out her name. Some have actually accused her of lying when she says that "actually I am in a london based call centre". :rotfl:
    Bless em...the ignorant caller......lol

Yep, lucky old me, I'm from Romford. Why is it when people on the TV want to make jokes about stupid people/ places that are dives, they choose Romford?

Having said that, not only do I actually like Romford, but I enjoy the attention you get as an Essex girl when you go elsewhere :D

One of my relatives was born in India, moved to London aged 19 (she is in her 60's now) - she dislikes being called Asian.

I am Welsh and don't particularly like it when people assume the UK consists of England and erm ... England.

Much earlier, in my teens, I bogged off to Belgium for quite a few months - my parents thought Belgium and France were the same place. .

I don't think my Mum , who was Belgian ,would have been impressed by that as she didn't have a very high opinion of the French

I'm pretty sure my Mum was sometimes referred to as Dutch , French or German , so I think it's worldwide and not just common to Oriental people chaching
