I am organising a somewhat surprise dinner for my mums 60th.
The menu is presumably going to be Prawn cocktail starters, steak main and black forest gateau for afters ? And Demis Roussos for the music ?0 -
Got to be scampi in a basket!0

Cherry B mixed with cider, I was drunk & sick on that a few times in the early 70's.
Love Hearts & flying saucers, I think Wagon Wheels as well, though nowadays they seem so much smaller......or maybe I'm bigger!
Found this site, be careful what you pick, the party guests probably had all their own teeth 'back in the day'.

What a lovely idea.
Babycham & Martini Asti Spumante for drinks
You can now purchase retro sweets and chocolates from Amazon0 -
I was very keen on babycham but I can also remember gin and bitter lemon being very popular.0

Yes Cherry B, but it was absolutely disgusting!0

Obviously moved in different circles - a half of Guinness would take me down memory lane!
Mind you, I was only 14. Can't look at cider now!
By the time I was 18 I'd become highly sophisticated. I remember causing much consternation in a Berni Inn when I asked for Blackfriars Gateaux. That was after the Blue Nun, of course.....0 -
Absolutely, yuk, in fact never liked them, but my mum bought them because she thought I ought to. They were like the worst white chocolate with added "synthetic strawberry" yukkiness. Until I read this post, I'd thankfully wiped them from my memory!2021 - mission declutter and clean - 0/20211 -
Drinks: babycham ...
However, the thought of leaving a birthday party with a party bag with a toy in it which reminds me of my youth fills me with despair. What the blankety blank am I supposed to do with that? Sorry, but there it is. Same reaction to little doves and hearts and 'favours' at weddings ...
I quite agree. At around 60, no one will be expecting the modern day waste of money that is a 'party bag'0 -
I am roughly the same age as your mum and I think that it is lovely of you to want to do this for her, she is very lucky to have such a thoughtful daughter ( I am guessing you are not a son:rotfl:) but it will be time-consuming, expensive and as has been said, tastes change and what we loved when we were 18 is not relevant now.
Obviously, it is up to you, but I personally wouldn't go too deeply into it!!
I would love everyone to bring a photo of us together from when we were younger, or a song memory, or an item which holds a special memory, or just to write down an anecdote. People would need to be contacted well in advance to give them time to get it organised, but I think that would be quite special.
I hope your mum has a great birthday.0
