  • Had a good tidy up in the kitchen and cleaned the fridge. Nipped and did a shop to top up for next few days. Bagged a few yellow stickers
    - 24 tins of senior dog food for £1.93 a dozen. The dog only had 1/3 of a tin to brighten up his biscuits, so they'll keeping him going for couple of months.
    - 2 packs of shortcrust pastry 39p each for the freezer
-quiche for tonight's new year nibble dinner £1.33
    - 11 bottles of J2O for £3 (2 damaged packs) for teenagers

Car was filled up yesterday and took an eye-watering £65 of petrol. I'm hoping should last us for at least 3 weeks, as hubby working from home due to covid so he can do school run odd days in his.

No misc spending which is great, we're avoiding the sales and it's going well. I did look for a new toaster, but couldn't find the one i wanted with any savings on, so will make do.

Have updated our spreadsheet as 90% of the direct debits are pending. Hubby was paid today, so the account looks healthy, the saving pots are topped up and budget in place. Starting 2022 with every penny under control.

    Happy New Year

    Happy new year!

A brand new shiny year with endless possibilites and adventures ready. I'm not doing the usual I need to lose weight, this year I'm trying to be healthier than thinner! Starting my 2022 debt free journey with a NSD 1/365 which feels great!

One of teenagers is working today (good on her for the time x1.5pay) so we're having a later dinner around 4pm and then will venture out for a dark new year walk.

We took the decorations down. Leftover turkey (from New Year’s Day) is in the slow cooker and I am under cats on the couch 😬 I crashed and burned today and didn’t get to NSD2 😖

I'm itching to get the decs down, but we're doing it Tuesday - the last day before the teenagers go back to school. Don't worry the NSD, you've got a whole year (minue 2 days) to go. I've been very good and finished all my ironing. Hotpot scrapped, hubby wanted a lamb curry instead.

NSD 3 in 2022 - which is a miracle! Another lazy day, took the eldest our driving for 2 hours and avoided all coffee shops on our way.  She did really well and I feel comfortable with her driving. Just waiting for her test and hoping a cancellation comes up.

Dinner is pasta bake from store cupboard and fridge leftovers. Not the most inpsiring dinner, but good winter comfort food. Would have loved a takeaway, but being good. I need to finish the shopping list for my trip on Wednesday. I do have a lot of tins and rice/pasta in stock which I"ll try to use up. After the disater of the last lockdown and living in quote rural area I added couple of bits extra every fortnight just in case and my tin cupboard is rammed.

Our bank accounts still in limbo - DD waiting to go out, so it looks like we're minted, but that won't last for long lol

We're on a mission - day 4 of 2022 and it's another NSD. Bit of a groundhog day, cleaning, relaxing and tidying. Christmas is over and everything packed away.

Money - Direct debits nearly all gone and money left all accounted for. I've set up another monthly saver with TSB. I've got £1200 sat in a non interest paying account. I've set it up to shift £100 a month across, so will get 2% instead of nothing. This is our never touch money, it's for emergencies only.

Saving cash  - I've managed to save £30 for cleaning my eldest daughter's ball gown. She dropped gravy on the front at her winter ball, so I rang the dry cleaners. They're amazing and said it's polyester, stick it in a pillow case and put it on a 30" wash. It's come up perfectly, so I'm a happy (and relieved mum) and £30 richer.

Making cash - Hubby sorted out his wardrobe and toiletries. I've been through it all and pulled out some items he was given at worl he'll never wear. Some golf tops I boight that were too tight and 3 bottles of aftershave that have only had few uses. Have stuck them all on ebay and will see if any of it sells. Have scanned a couple of receipts hubby forgot he had, these soon add up and i'll get amazon vouchers for next xmas. I've already reedemed £5 on 1/1

Food - defrosted some leftover xmas prawns and made a lovely prawn cocktail for lunch. It was a great way to use up a pack of belini, a spare pot of cocktail sauce that was use by 9/1 and some very tired looking salad. Dinner is corned beef hash with fried onions in, served with carrot or beans (depending on teenager's taste)Have printed off my shopping list and plan to get the family to help me meal plan tonight and finish the list for a big shop tomorrow.

Fuel - My car full of fuel, so won't need any petrol. The eldest's needs some after we've been out on her L plates a lot. Planning of getting her to drive to the station and fill it up for the pratice, but i'll pay. Not sure on hubby's levels, but he's back to working from home due to covid, so he won't need a lot.

Thanks pennywise, hoping ping my it continue. I'm constantly full of motivation every January 😂

Didn't do the big shop we had planned. Had to nip and collect my daughter's coat that had been repaired under warranty. Nipped into the food warehouse and bought a few bits to keep us going. Spent £27.16 and some more glasses in Morrison's to replace a couple that we'd broken. Chuffed they had £1.50 off so we're only £4.

Took the dog got his monthly treatment, paid for 6months worth so the vet can get claim done. I'd received a text from the insurance company 1.5hours later, saying claim was in. Great service. It cost £310.14 so should get £123 back after the excess and contribution paid. Will stick it in the dog's saving pot towards the next lot in June.

A heavy spending day, but with shopping items should be able to cruise through to weekend and do proper shop over weekend.

    NSD total in 2022 - 4
