You said she is allowed £10 for the cinema.
Is there anyway you could arrange to go together?
She may open up if she feels in a safe environment.

Not just slavery - there is/could be abuse involved here too.

Financial abuse for a start - having to hand over everything with only a nominal amount returned points towards abuse.

From the bit you have said OP, I think you are right to be concerned.

I was going to suggest contacting social services, as I was unaware there was a slavery helpline - which does seem the best course of action

It sounds heartbreaking and all the best to you

What a lovely person you are, you are the only one who has noticed there is something wrong, I hope you can get her on the right road to being able to live her life like a normal person xx

Brilliant idea, had to comment as a “thanks” button wasn’t enough.

OP, thank you for picking up on this and trying to do your best for your work colleague.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time
  • You’re doing good! I’m sure you’re aware of this but whatever you do make sure no one else knows that can link to them.

I agree possibly a cinema date, but would that alert the father?

If HR are alerted current issue is it worth asking them to check bank details across the accounts? They don’t need to tell you obvs but just have the files reviewed for any abnormalities?

  • Thanks for your advice. I phoned the police in the end on 101 and reported it as a concern for welfare, because of what she was caught doing at work. I also raised concerns about everything else during the phone call and have agreed to give a witness statement if it is needed. I don't know if anything will come from it, but I have given enough information that I'm sure the police will at least visit their house and investigate it. They've also gave me a reference number to use in a 999 call if there is an immediate cause for concern for her welfare and I've also been advised to inform my line manager at work and if they've also noticed a concern for her welfare. Then to ask them to report it as well.

Hopefully something good will come from this and I'm sure the police will also see something is very wrong.

What about Action Fraud? I've reported financial abuse to them before & they work with the police.
