I think that this will be your answer - either apps have been refreshing in the background and using data (remember even games that have ad's need data) and if any have updated whilst on your trip, if they are set to update on mobile data could have been part if not all the issue.

When my daughter was on a lower data plan we had to limit what was allowed on mobile data and that is one of the excellent features of the iPhone range - plenty of guides / videos online to show you how to change the settings.

Thank you so much for this - that article was incredibly helpful - I’ve turned off all sorts of stuff in the settings and reset the stats for usage so hopefully this coming month will be more realistic!

I would say make sure your data is switch off until you need to use it
make sure that your apps can only update over Wifi there is a setting to do that some apps take a lot of data.

I aslo ran out of data on my contract phone once and it turned out it was the speed checker i kept checking my data speed when i was out just to see how fast it was in the places i was going and it used 2gb over about a week.

So just a few things that can happen so now i have plenty of data on my contract and never run out.

That’s very helpful thanks - I had WiFi Assist and Background Refresh & all sorts on - lots of default settings I wasn’t aware of - so I’ve now gone through everything and switched off a lot. Hopefully the coming month will be more realistic!

I agree - I think that’s what it was as well - and I’ve gone through the article and taken off a lot of settings now. I’ve also reset my usage stats so will be keeping a close eye on that this month to make sure it’s more realistic! Thanks for your help
