Which Digital Camera?

I have read and read about digital cameras and now I am as confused as when I started!

I am looking for a decent camera up to £180 with at least 7 megapixels, at least 5 x optical lens, and now it seems with a wide lens??? (whatever that means)

Basically I love photos and would love a camera that takes decent photos, doesn't take ages to take the picture after I press the button, does good close ups, quality photos and that is it. ( I think)

Can anyone suggest this type of camera? I was looking at Samsung 1050 and Samsung NV11 - ??? or Canon A720 IS?

Of your chosen ones that is the one I would go for, see review >>here<<, the only drawback is it takes ordinary batteries but that is no problem as you can buy rechargeable AA's.

Personally I would not recommend buying anything from Pixmania, they are based in France and have a terrible reputation for after sales service, see various threads on these boards.

Agreed but full specification is given when you click on more info, people can find their own best buy! Your IXUS does not meet the OP's requirements of "at least 7 megapixels, at least 5 x optical lens"

  • I recently asked regarding Digital Cameras here:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=601344

for what your asking in requirments the Panasonic TZ3 may suit your needs.

It gets very good reviews and i am considering purchasing it.
  • The TZ2 is 6MP, so you could consider the very similar model up (DMC-TZ3) which should be available within your price range and is 7.2MP.

I do not know that much about digital cameras, but my advice, is if you buy a brand name you will have a good quality camera, make sure it has a fast shutter lag (the amount of time it takes between pressing the button and the picture actually being taken).

I learned the hard way, I bought a digital camera from Sony 3 years ago that is lovely but you press the button and you could almost make a cup of tea whilst waiting for it to take the picture!

Also almost any movement makes for a blurry picture on it, so you could try getting one with the new anti shake technology and also the new focus thing they do now on cameras.

Sony now have these new technologies so I would think their cameras have moved on and are better now!

Heard good things about Fuji, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Canon re point and shoot cameras. I am currently looking for a camera myself so have been reading around like you for ages, have to agree there is a lot to get confused about!
