We have a Panny FZ18, light weight but maybe a bit too bulky for your taste. Apart from the internal LCD viewer it's like an FZ3 in capability. Able to take hand held (leaning on some street furniture type) night shots that 1/3 of the time come out great. plus 'impossible' zoom shots even in not-brilliant lighting. Digicams have come a long way in the last 2 years. Enjoy!

Samsung NV5 £100 for 7MP & 7x optical. Cheap for the spec, but I haven't tested it myself.

If you're considering a Canon camera, Amazon is offering cashback on selected models. :)

Jessops is offering 10% off till Mon (tomorrow)

EDIT - not just amazon offering the cashback, thanks randomtask (below) :D
  • I don't think that's just amazon - Canon are doing a cashback offer to mark 20 years for their EOS system.

They seem to be doing cashback on a lot of things, I've just ordered a Multi-function Canon printer for £45 and that's eligible for £20 cashback as well.

the trouble is that the zoom lenses are rubbish in comparison to film cameras - i have a fuji fine pix which is a great camera i am more than happy with the pictures but disapointed at the zoom length! if you need a good zoom you need to look at 10x optical. i replaced mine with a panasonic tz3 which is brilliant and compact.

    for my 2pence worth

    I had the canon A85 (4 megapixels)
now i have the Fujifilm s5600

oh How i wish i didnt i wish i had my old camera back.

4mp is good ebnough for A4 pictures ( and a FEW printed in practical photography to prove it )

    my new camera is in a word C R A P.

go for lens quality rather than mega pixles. got to a private firm rather than big multi national cause 99% of the time the guy / girl behind the counter dont give a flying fig about what they sell you casue they still get paid at end of the week

    Have a look at https://www.dpreview.com

The chap seems to know his stuff and reviews most of the cameras mentioned here.

Having just come back from Vegas with lots of blurry night pictures, I'd say anti-shake is a must!
