there is an article by Martin saying much the same thing, if you prefer it to come from the horses mouth.

If you actually look at Mumzys first post Martin has put this as a forum tip so he can't think its a bad idea like you do......;)

Just a shame that 155 other people seem to think its a good idea too isn't it.

Out of the whole month its been running you are the only person to think its a bad idea

  • I understand your thinking Albatross, but I was just going to put the coppers out of the bottom of my handbag etc in my pot, so that it is quite small and won't make that much difference to the £25,000 in debt i am :-O
There's got to be a silver lining in all this cutting back gloom. This pot will be just for a nice meal out for me & hubby as this is what we miss the most about being broke :-(

My aim would be £100 anything over that would just be a bonus

    xx
  • Thanks I'm no.154.

I guess by looking at the large plastic soft drinks bottle I've got atleast £150 saved, the question is should I bank the money gaining abit of interest or just carry on saving in the "piggy bank" until the end of the year?

Suggest you read this from Martin:

"Pay off debts with your savings!
    The Golden MoneySaving Rule

Emotionally, many will find what I'm about to say difficult to deal with. The idea of having some cash in a savings pot feels safe, especially as traditional budgeting logic berates us to always have an ‘emergency cash fund'.

OK, I think what you need to understand is that we aren't putting our life savings in here - it's in my case around £4 a week. I will still continue to save £50 a month for car tax, house insurance and car insurance in a savings account while paying off over £800 a month toward debts. I'm not going to stop paying max amount towards debts to put it in the pot, just going to chuck change in it and maybe a couple of pounds off the shopping budget.
