Decent local computer store could fit any SSD purchased, for £50 or less. Not a difficult job, though HP have made it a lot more fiddly than it needs to be.

Would I buy it? Probably not. But if the OP is not willing to attempt any kind of upgrade.

If he still has the HP ENVY Notebook - 15-ah150sa (N7H25EA#ABU) he could simply fit an SSD to that and save himself £250.

I'm also pondering over a mobility scooter and we have our house up for sale and looking for another, so it needs to be simple.

Not your best move. How much did you get for it?
I thought the Chromebook manoeuvre was bad enough.

18 months or so ago, I was about to enter the world of chromebooks. Whilst users of this device in the main, extolled its virtues. However, member EveryWhere was quite constructively vocal.

Now has come the time to admit that perhaps I should have listed to him. I'm fed up with constantly clearing data etc via advanced settings. Pages are taking ages to load.

I tried to find my original post ref chromebooks, but can't locate it, however I've picked up the everywhere has mentioned Dell, but no other spec.

Maybe if he is able to stop laughing and if he can refrain from typing "I told you so", I'm happy to listen and be advised accordingly as this Chromebook is destined to GO. Don't quite know where to start, but if we say £200 - £300

What you describe isn't representative of others experiences, and would suggest that something is rather drastically wrong with your chromebook. I've never cleared anything via advanced settings, and pages load as quick as anything. I take it you've tried powerwashing it? Are you sure it isn't your internet connection/speed?

I suspect benson1980 means factory resetting the device.

To be fair though, introducing the Chromebook to copious amounts of water might not be bad idea...

I had a computer printer where the manual said 'Do not immerse this printer in water.' My mistake was to abide by that.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Trouble is 99% of anything beyond a ex business "refurb" is going to be useless at that price.

Now £400-£500 and while 50% are still terrible there is some possibility of a new machine being useful.

Same applies to chromebooks. The cheap ones are bad. (and there is little point in refurb ones due to the death date).

That said I do fancy a chromebook myself, but I know what I am in for!

Factory reset. On the chomebook its referred to as powerwashing and easy to do. I'd try that, and check your internet connection speed to make sure something isn't wrong elsewhere, before writing off the device as what you describe, albeit in slightly limited detail, is definitely not normal.
