    Well, it seems to have done ... but it's come up with "hello T.. P..." please enter your password (despite me telling it to scrub everything) and it has the same desktop photo of her family.

    Where did I go wrong?

    You didn't follow my instruction. That's what happened.

    Boot from USB. Delete partitions. Then install.

    But, as I said ....

    It still won't actually 'boot' from the USB, but I've accessed it via W Explorer ....
    There doesn't seem to be a boot from USB option in the BIOS. :(

    If there is no Boot Manager

    Try;

    Type the passcode (4 digits) HP supplies and press ENTER. Legacy Support is now <Enabled> in BIOS.

    Once the HP Stream 11 restarts, an ESC option may appear in the bottom left corner of the screen.

    Press ESC then F9 to open BOOT MANAGER, Boot Options Menu

    OS boot manager (UEFI) - Windows Boot Manager (MBG4GC)

    Boot from EFI File

    Notebook Hard Drive - MBG4GC

    USB Hard Drive - USB DISK 2.0

    What options do you get when you press ESC on start up and then F9(with the bootable USB Flash drive already plugged in)?

    Preparing a curry that takes four hours. Starving. Will create a Starter of sorts...

    Was tasty. Tomato & Mascarpone soup and Padron peppers.

    That'll keep me going until the main course is ready.

    I hope that you chose to delete all of the partitions, including System Reserved;

    Deleted everything that it would let me, but still had ...

    Drive 0 Unallocated Space 29.1 GB
    Drive 1 Partition 1: ESD-USB 32 GB
    Drive 1 Unallocated Space 899.5 GB

    I guess the last two are my external HDD

    It was most insistent that I entered a MS account but Google told me to use 'user' and it went OK then.
    We have version 1903 - any pointers as to how to keep it working now? ;)

    Anyway, all done, many thanks.

    Enjoy the curry

    'Twas good.

    Should have added this; https://fdossena.com/?p=w10debotnet/index_1903.frag

    Stop prior to Let It Download All The Updates.

    No need to do anything. Your install should have a System Reserved partition of up to 7 GB, that should take care of future feature updates.
    It was designed for those 32 GB devices.
    If they want more storage space, they can fit an microSD/SD Card.

    How much space left on the 29.1 GB eMMC drive?

    Noted

    Not sure, sorry, but when I looked at 'properties' it had used about 70%

    Many thanks
