One of those little laptops with only a 30 (?) GB HDD and 2Gb RAM
I've been asked to scrub it and reinstall as it's "full up"
I know it's only damage limitation really but any pointers as to how to do it to give the best results within it's limitations?

What's the exact model of laptop? It sounds like it has a built-in 32GB eMMC of solid state storage, which is normally not replaceable. I despise these as 32GB is far too small.
Backup whatever needs to be kept then reinstall Windows 10 from from a USB stick. After installation, be sure to disable hibernation to save on drive space.
Personally I would use MSMG Toolkit to slim down Windows 10 as much as possible.0 -
Use Fresh start to install a clean version of Windows 10

That's the plan methinkspoppellerant wrote: »Backup whatever needs to be kept then reinstall Windows 10 from from a USB stick. After installation, be sure to disable hibernation to save on drive space.
Looks a bit complex that lotpoppellerant wrote: »Personally I would use MSMG Toolkit to slim down Windows 10 as much as possible.
Sorry, but windows doesn't have enough disc space for that!!Use Fresh start to install a clean version of Windows 10

If you clean install the latest version, it will create a 7 GB buffer in so that you should not have issues with future upgrades.
Another option may be to remove the Wireless Card within, in order to replace it with mini PCIe SSD;
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lite-On-128GB-LMT-128L9M-Internal-Mini-PCIe-mSATA-Solid-State-Drive-SSD-0921PN/283634986361

Then you can have an at least 128 GB SSD installed.
But since it isn't your laptop, you probably won't want to bother yourself with doing that.0 -
I have MediaCreationTool1903.exe on an external HDD, but can't persuade it to boot from USB!EveryWhere wrote: »If you clean install the latest version, it will create a 7 GB buffer in so that you should not have issues with future upgrades.
When I just try to run the said .exe from W Explorer, after thinking about it for a while, it declares that there isn't enough disk space!

Correct!
Erm...the Media Creation Tool is just to create media. You cannot boot from it.
Creating the Windows 10 USB flash drive
Visit the Microsoft Media Creation Tool website
Click Download Tool Now.
Save the Application.
Plug your USB Flash Drive into the PC where you saved the application.
Run the Application.
Accept the EULA
Select Create installation media for another PC and click Next.
Choose the correct settings for your version of Windows 10
Language (Country)
Windows 10
64-bit (x64) or x32
Click Next.
Select USB Flash Drive and click Next.
Select the Flash Drive and click Next.0 -
Once you have created the media on an external USB Flash drive and booted off it, make sure that you choose Custom install and then choose to delete all of the existing partitions. Only then to clean install Windows 10 to the eMMC drive.
Off to the supermarket. Back in a couple of hours...0 -

Sorry
It still won't actually 'boot' from the USB, but I've accessed it via W Explorer .... still wouldn't install due to 'low disk space' but then I just deleted the 2nd user and now we are installing ..... fingers crossed!!EveryWhere wrote: »Once you have created the media on an external USB Flash drive and booted off it, make sure that you choose Custom install and then choose to delete all of the existing partitions. I suspect you must be in a different time zone to me as it was after 4pm on a Sunday here in the UK when you posted that!

Well, it seems to have done ... but it's come up with "hello T.. P..." please enter your password (despite me telling it to scrub everything) and it has the same desktop photo of her family.
Where did I go wrong?0 -

Some supermarkets are open until 6pm....as they choose to open at 12. Some choose to open at 10 or 11am.0
