Fitting mattress up the stairs

I have a king mattress and I’m worried that it won’t fit up the stairs. It’s a very sturdy one so bending it will be a problem.
The stairs are steep, and I tried but the mattress was too heavy/I was tired.
Do I measure the distance between the stair and the ceiling height? And if that’s bigger than the width of my mattress, I’m ok? What about diagonally across ?

It's more about the space you'll need to turn it at the top of the stairs if your stairs have a turn in them, or if you need to take it across a landing. A king sized mattress is only five feet wide. It would be a pretty silly staircase that only people five feet tall or shorter could use.0

The mattress is 2m long, so when it goes up the stairs it has to go at an angle.
Upstairs isn’t a problem.0 -
Maybe at an angle is ok?0

I have a superking, deep with built in topper and had the same problem. I got my nephew round, much younger and fitter than me. We pushed, pulled and got very tired and sweaty and it eventually went.
I was left with a few marks on the stairs wall, they've painted over fine and I pulled one side of the sewn in handles off the mattress.
If I move it's staying put and I'm never getting a new one lol
Bit of brute force and it'll go.0 -
Moving a King size mattress ANYWHERE is not a task for just one person. Can you get extra people to help you? Preferably one in front of the mattress pulling/ guiding round corners and possibly 2 behind pushing.
Large mattresses seem to have a mind of there own when being moved.0 -
I tried with another person who wasn’t as strong.... and the mattress is 150 lbs.
http://blog.thebrick.com/make-it-fit-measure-your-home-for-delivery/ this website shows the measurements I need to take. The mattress won’t fit according to these measurements. So if it put it on the side will it fit?0 -
Could you rope it through a handle and get somebody at the top just to take most of the weight even if they're not manoeuvring?0

If the mattress won't fit, it won't fit. How do you plan to get a 5 foot wide mattress up a 3 foot wide staircase if you put it on its side? We had one delivered recently and it was the depth, and therefore lack of bendability which created the problem although the delivery guys did get it in. As it was still wrapped in polythene it slid through the shallowest part of the stairs without causing damage to it, or to paintwork.0

The width isn’t the problem, it’s the height.
By putting the mattress on its side, as in an angle of 45 degrees, it makes the mattress not as tall.0 -
@greatgimpo I am getting done family around soon, so they can do it. It’s just hiring the van back on Ikea that’s the problem as it’s financial cost and also I’m not sure if Ikea will accept the return,0
