They are the KWH readings that I have calculated for each day on excel

The meter reads M3 are recorded as well as below

    03/10/2019 9:06 AM 13194.356 M3

    04/10/2019 8:07 AM 13194.691 M3: 0.335 = 3.797

    05/10/2019 7:48 AM 13196.534 M3: 1.843 = 20.889

    06/10/2019 7:58 AM 13199.862 M3: 3.328 = 37.720

    07/10/2019 5:46 AM 13201.958 M3: 2.096 = 23.757

    08/10/2019 6:02 AM 13215.417 M3: 13.459 = 152.548

The gas has been turned off at the mains today

    1108 am meter read 13215.759

At 506 pm it read 13216.019

So it used 0.260 m3 with gas turned off. Or 2.947 kWh

Your entire gas system needs someone to come out and perform a basic "drop test ".There is a nipple on the meter just for this purpose. This needs ruling out to check for gas leaks before going any further

As far as your energy supplier goes, you used the energy so they will not be especially interested.

My daughter had a similar problem. Moved into her new home mid March 2019, gas bill after 3 months said she had used over 13000 KWH in spite of her swearing to me that she hardly had the heating on at all. Her bill was around £500 for three 'spring' months. I would not expect her to use that amount of gas in a whole year for a 2 bed flat let alone for 3 months!!

A quick 'google' led me to info about some Siemans/Landis & Gyr electronic credit meters beginning with serial number E6 being faulty in that they were falsely 'Incrementing', i.e. racking up gas usage incorrectly.

Long story short I paid £108.00 to her energy supplier (EON) to exchange the meter and send old one for testing. Took about 6 odd weeks but when we received the test report it stated that the meter was so faulty it could not even be properly tested for accuracy. Contacted EON armed with the evidence and they had to re-calculate the bill and refund the £108.00.

Obviously you are doing the right thing by eliminating other possible causes first.

The gas test is done by an independent testing house and the results are sent to the householder as well as the energy supplier. The below info may be useful to you. Good luck.

    Well this saga drags on.

Yesterday afternoon, the Gas Engineer attended and identified that there are no leaks, and all gas appliances are working correctly. He also noted that during the testing, which utilised using the central heating on full for 30 – 45 minutes, the meter didn’t register any increase in usage at all.

I contacted my supplier today. Despite being told on three occasions they will do Gas meter testing (and having been given two entirely different prices) they say now that that isn’t their policy. They will change out the meter like for like and then track our usage over the next two months before coming to some sort of final position.

My concern is that I have only been a customer since April time, if they are going to compare my usage since then compared with the next two months it will obviously show an increase it will be in winter rather than summer. Also I do not want to pay a bill that is triple what I have used for 3 -4 months to have to go through

Do i get it changed out or get it tested?

Do i contact Ofgem due to the massive inconsistencies i have been told throughout

Throughout all this we have refrained from using the heating and with two young children this can't go on

    Latest meter reads now

Tell the supplier that you want an independent test of the meter carried out. The meter testing is not done in situ as the meter has to be removed and sent away and in it's place you will have a replacement meter installed. Yes you will have to pay them for this but if the old meter tests as faulty you will be refunded and your bill recalculated on the basis of Ofgem average usage guidlines. See the link in my last post.

So, with heating on no advance on meter, yet when using nothing, meter creeps?

That's what i was told. it runs counter to what we have experienced, but have used the central heating for about one hour in the past week since this started so I can't say with any accuracy. Given he's an accredited Gas Engineer I'll take him at his word

All i know is that our usage is roughly triple and in some cases 10 x what it was last winter and there are no reason why it should be (no issues with gas appliances, no leaks, no changes in circumstances)
