I accept the extra baggage cost but assume that these will be relatively similar across airlines. Therefore, it is the upfront travel cost that I'm looking to minimise. I'm just not what combination of flights (single vs return)/dates can achieve this. ITA matrix is great but is there a any other resource worth checking?

£248 from EDI w/c 13 Jan. Overnight at LGW. Amazingly cheap! Might be cheaper to use a courier for the extra suitcases?

I know that it’s. It what you asked, but do you have the necessary paperwork to find employment in Canada, or has a new employer arranged it for you?

I ask as if you are going there with a job lined up it’s a little strange that you are struggling with the cost of a flight and if you don’t have a job then it’s not so easy to get the points.

Thanks, but please don't detract from the main question. I have permanent residence. I don't have job (I'm trying but may not be able to obtain a job until I get to Canada). The flight is the sole issue here.

Thanks. Looks like what EveryWhere has advised. The issue will be that I will have to pay extra baggage for both Easyjet and Westjet. But this is still looking like the cheapest option.

I certainly didn't advise the overnight option :money:
Not sure why NickC did so. Perhaps he didn't see the option of the same day connection in my post #7.

The other thing about which you would need to be careful, is that even the 'full service' airline fares might not and likely will not include any checked-in baggage.
So don't waste too much time with looking at the full service airlines, since you will have to pay for all of your checked baggage with them too.

The only difference is that hopefully you'll just pay one price all the way through from Scotland. On the other hand, you have to be careful that you aren't charged for both ways if you buy a return ticket.

Personal preference. I wouldn't want to be at Edinburgh airport at 5am and have five and a half hours waiting at Gatwick for a 9 hour flight in economy.

You can get the Premier Inn at Gatwick North for £40 a night
