    Wouldnt recommend them.

I have been having problems with them for a couple of months now. When its working the speed is fine but it drops out totally several times a day for several mins at a time. Initially they said they had identified a fault and sent an engineer round but it made no difference. I still get the dropout.

Using the online service checker it either hangs till the issue resolves itself (then says everything is fine) or occasionally says fault and to phone. Of course by the time i get through to anyone its all working and they just say its looks fine.

The last conversation with them was interesting. Apparently according to them i have too many devices connected. I was told 8 devices on fab fibre is too many. It doesnt slow down or anything, its not a wifi issue, the hub simply disconnects from the internet. Its not as though its an issue with the hub (which is truly a piece of crap) because if i test by replacing it with my old sky hub its no different. So, according to them, if i pay them some more for an upgrade all my problems might go away.

Obviously i initially thought this was just carp but coincidentally i was the only one here at the weekend and had no problems at all. So either they are just lying because they cant be bothered trying to fix the issue or they are (despite insisting in all the sales stuff that they dont) operating a rather cynical traffic management policy to force users to upgrade (which is what the conversation with support seems to suggest is the case).

Upgrade to what exactly? If the problem is the hub then you can at least use your own on Sky/NowTV nowadays.

I am on the Fab Fibre up to 36Mb. She was telling me if i upgraded to the up to 76Mb package it would solve my problems. This is after she went to discuss it with her supervisor.

Whatever it is isnt the hub. I was with Sky so still have the sky hub. I have tried using that. Its actually a better hub than the junk Now provided (more Ethernet ports, stronger wifi) but i still have the same intermittent dropouts.

I am with nowtv broadband. Had it for 2 days and it has worked well for me. Having said that I always had good connection with all ISPs. The hardware is all owned by BT openreach. I don't see how the dropouts can ever be down to the ISP. If you live in an area with good BT infrastructure you'll ususally get good reliable connections.

Thew dropouts, are they line dropouts of crappy wifi dropouts. With a Nowtv box, you'll get rubbish wifi which interferes and clashes with your neighbours wifi and you get rubbish coverage. If you've go your wifi box in a corner of the house where the neighbour has their wifi box on the other side of the wall beaming their SSID on the same channels. It's no surprise you'll get poor coverage.

I would recommend using an wireless access point by Tp link or some other brand to be your wifi broadcaster, disable wifi on the now box and use the access point as the sole wifi access point.

If you are lucky to live in a massive house with thick walls than a wifi mesh would be useful.

Any ideas why it's telling me I can't get Now TV Broadband at my address please? It all goes okay with my postcode and address until I put my phone no. in then it tells me I can't get it at my address. Could it be because I already am a sky tv customer and they want me to go for the full fat sky broadband instead or maybe it's because I've had sky broadband in the past, although it was around 4 or 5 years ago I think? Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, thanks.

It sounds like NowTV (at least) have filled their quota on your exchange/cabinet, it's possible that there are no free spots at all so be careful moving as you could potentially end up without any BB at all.

I moved from Sky to NowTV myself so it's definitely not that.

Thanks Colin, is there a way to check if the cabinet is full or nearly full, no point risking moving to a new provider if there is a chance I may lose broadband altogether? I'm currently with John Lewis on the standard rate 11mb service and happy with it but there is a price increase coming and I was just checking prices of others. Much appreciated.

I'm on Fab Fibre and have been for a while. It's been absolutely fine and have not had any issues where I have had to contact them.
  • I’ve been with Now for a year and about to negotiate another 12 month deal - hopefully! No problems at all and customer service good when I’ve phoned them.
  • Well, I phoned Now and got through straight away (it was 2pmish). I'm currently paying £23.50 a month for fast fibre and anytime calls. They've offered me the same for £22.99 for 12 more months.
