    I've been chatting to a bloke for 2 years & I reckon he's a scammer.
    Can't prove it though :(

Hardly a very effective scam if it has taken him 2 years and he still hasn't got round to trying to get your bank account details.

There's a big difference between a scam and a nuisance call.

Why is it that after receiving scam phone calls when I go to reverse number look up sites to register it there are no other reports - in the past there were lots?

You should be less concerned about scam phone calls considering you can recognise them. The numbers are often fake and probably change very quickly.

I just had a scam call telling me "Emergency! 600 quid has been taken from my account!"..Even though I knew it was most likely a scam, I still damn near had a heart attack! I checked the number on the 'who called me' thing, and it was not listed..So I nearly had another heart attack..

Good sense prevailed and I phoned my Bank, who kindly informed me it was indeed a scam..Phew! True, I only had a £3.64 in my account so they wouldn't have got anything..But one can't help feeling somewhat violated by this sort of nonsense.
Had a few of these, each on a different "number" - the fun thing is that usually it comes through to the answer machine, so by the time my machine has finished and switched to record the scam robot only has a couple of words left before it cuts off - don't think its persuaded my answer machine to call the bank, but do hope they both enjoyed talking to each other.

Now I have number display on my phone I'm amazed by the number of different numbers that appear - but I have an answerphone and my rule is simple - don't know the number -don't answer:rotfl:

Did you actually answer the phone & talk to them?
I presume so, especially as the number isn't recorded as scam. Or how would you know it was a scam?
Everybody scams. You can't trust anybody.

Usual story. Single stupid naive lonely British woman.
I didn't worry coz I just thought well I'm skint so...
He's white & was born in Britain. Then at the weekend he's on about Thailand & taking me there. Sent me links & pics. Apparently his "friend" owns the hotel.
    Yeah... right :(

You'll be fine, all you need to do is to carry his luggage for him...
  • We've just this week been plagued with the "Your internet will be cut off shortly..." messages for the first time. Every single one is a different number.

But you have to pay to stop these calls - so in a way they are profiting from them.

But you don't have to pay BT, so again, they're not making a profit.

The BT8600 is less than £40 on Amazon. A small price to pay to eliminate the scammers.
