XBOX (original)

  • If you intend to mod these you will need to raid ebay for a few items. You will need an original 'Splinter Cell or Goldeneye or some game I can't remember. (MechWarrior3 I think). Not classic versions. You will need a memory card (8 meg ideally). Then you will need a way of connecting the memory card to PC. I used 'Action Replay'. You will need software after you have Softmodded the Xbox (I used Slayers Auto Install found on torrent) .After that all the info you need will be found by googling. Can be a bit of a challenge and if your not technically minded don't bother.
If you haven't been put off by this you will be amazed by what you will get. I have two around the house networked to my Media center. Oh, I would get a remote control for it also.

As mentioned in previous posts, the XBOX can be modded to play virtually every type of media file from either DVD or ome network.

I have 2 setup at home and have never had the need to purchase a Divx player

I bought my last one from Gamestation for £29.99 (used) with 3 games and 12 months warranty. The one before that was also used for £35 from Cex, again with 12 months guarantee.

I've got 4 XBMC boxes around the house now. Can't beat them for the price.

My local Blockbuster (Wimbledon) only has the pre-owned Xbox's for 29.99, none new AFAIK (I didn't ask the staff).

Haven't check at the ASDA's near me, if anyone is around the Clapham area, there's a large ASDA there, could they have a look-see and let us know?

    Thanks

Local GAME has some pre-owned with 12month guarantee: No new ones will look out to see if I can see any new units.

GAME has £10 for 4 Xbox games as well (pre-owned or new)

Oh yes, there was also, on the same sign, that when buying the pre-owned xbox you could get games for 10 or 20 (think it was 4 for 10 and 8 for 20 or something like that)

be wary though, the original xboxes (when modded) have different dvd drives with different ranges of compatibility with dvd media. some are very restricted. mine for example, will play all dvd-r but no dvd+r, but will play some dvd+rw. of course if you are just going to network it this is not an issue. but if, say, you have a dvd recorder that only uses dvd+r, then you'd have to reburn everything onto dvd-r to get it to work on some xboxes. some of the newer xboxes are more fussy if i remember correctly, which is why i went for a pre-owned one, as it meant i could examine the drives before buying.

is that as confusing to read as it was to write?

still a brilliant machine, and the best £40 (pre-owned) i've spent in a while!
