Here's the sign: Google Maps Link

And oddly, a bit further down is a 30 sign which also says the 20 zone ends: Google Maps Link

The forum has broken your links. Without manually cutting and pasting them, then removing the spaces, the first is an extreme zoom in to allotments, the second to a cemetery.

    Google's shortlinks work much better...

20 zones have to be self-enforcing through traffic calming to be legally enforceable without repeater signage. One barely-raised pedestrian crossing in 250m is probably not enough. Also, a quick google doesn't find any of the legal paperwork needed to make it enforceable.

So the default limit applies - which, given the streetlights, is 30.

They work fine for me and my wife. Must be your computer.

Advisory speed limits are NEVER in a red border. Those are mandatory.

Did you try actually clicking the links in your post? The forum adds a space to long links - it's a well-known bug.

Ah - I see that you've edited the links, to put them behind text. Yep, that'll work. Your edit was timed before my post, but after I'd opened yours.

Not foolish at all if, as seems likely, these are unofficial.
Advisory limits are there for a reason. In this case, a school. Sounds pretty foolish to me.

There’s a 30mph advisory speed limit joining the M11 from the M25, which used to be on my daily commute. I’d always see how fast each of my cars could manage it when there were no other cars around and conditions were good.

The best I ever managed was 80mph in a Lotus Elise.
Absolutely foolish. They are there for a reason. Not sure what that reason is but why chance it? That m11 and m25 road you mention is for most of the curve blind. But speeding towards the unknown round that corner is also foolish.

But if in a red circle, it's mandatory.

I figured, as I was driving along there at about 11pm, it was pretty unlikely the school would be open, so I drove at 30mph.

But I have no idea if I was breaking the limit as I didn't really know what the limit was. If 20 is advisory, what is the mandatory limit?

If ever a limit is unenforceable, it reverts to the default. And there's streetlights, so the default is...?

Can anyone help AdrianC with his question?
