Is iPhone 7 still worth buying?

I need a new phone and want iOS for compatability reasons. I don't really fancy spending what this year and last year's iPhones are priced at. The 7 128gb is a very reasonable £429. The Plus version just £50 extra. If I were looking to hold onto one for around 3 years would the 7 be worth buying or should I just pay the extra for the XR?

Not for the whole 3 years - there'll be another iOS upgrade & you can bet the 7 won't be included. Shorter term though say a year, year & a half if you can live without the latest iOS, yes a 7 will do!
Says she waiting to see the next iteration which may be not only 4/5 shaped but even possibly suitably Small Sized! I do not need a phone that takes 2 hands to operate. (The whole ph-ablet malarkey is madness...)0 -
TBH I had a feeling that was the case. From a financial point of view, newer is probably better as I don't plan changing until it gives up.0

I would have thought it was ok.
The 6S is still supported to latest firmware.
They even did a security update for older phones yesterday. For ver 120 -

You would lose your bet, the 7 will definitely get the next major update and probably the one after that as well.
The iPhone 6 has only just stop receiving iOS updates (but still gets security updates).====0 -
well I got one this year and I expect it to be viable for the next three years
I only updated my SE because I dropped it and the non Apple fix made it a bit flaky ( still worked but if cold would be a bit weird )
We still use the original iPad, getting a new one this year solely because the Apps we use won't work on this one0 -
I love this site, I learn so much!
Either way, stay off the new phone as long as possible & nurse that £400 odd in more enjoyable MSE ways?0 -
In the last 6 months I have had a 7 plus and a 7. I traded the 7 plus in as it was too big for a mobile phone. I loved the telephoto lens but that was not enough for me to keep it. I know have a 7 which I think is just the right size. The XR is too big too. Now is the right time to buy a 7, you will get 3 years of usefulness use out of it. You can get a good condition used one from CEX for a around £300 with a 2 year warranty.0

I'm in two minds now. The Iphone 11 would give alot more years with battery changes but costs £300 more. Ideally I would have gone with an 8 but Apple's odd pricing structure and only offering the 8 in 64gb or 256gb means it lands way to close to the XR (although XR would be 128 gb which is all I need).0

            Listen to yourself!
Buying the latest model iPhone having only been released a week or so ago does not make good MSE sense!
64Gb is more that enough for most (32 is fine!). Unless you are going to do loads of video recording.
Look at deals of the 8 and 10 over the next few months0 -

Sounds like you should be considering the XR then.====0
