Old fashioned Bread Pudding using stale bread is another rib sticker worth making and from the bakery we buy something called Coventry Cake which is stale cakes processed and then made into the most gorgeous stodgy dark fruit cake you can imagine, oh it's bliss!0

Beef stew with GF dumplings is a must.
Chilli with jacket spuds
Jacket spuds with cheese and beans
Risotto, summer ones tend to be lighter with just a few seasonal veg but winter ones have a slosh of red wine, roasted veg and a good handful of cheddar.
We love a lunch time winter soup to warm us up too, onion is a fav."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

We used to get from the bakers something called Nelson cake
It was bread pudding in-between a pastry top and bottom stuck together with jam
It was a penny a slice. about the width and length of your forefinger
A right rib sticker0 -
OMG, the variations on bread pudding are making me drool. The only thing is I doubt I would be able to stop at one slice given the ungenerous dimensions you describe.
If its pouring as predicted this evening, I shall opt for gloopy porridge with prunes. Saddo that I am, I'm thinking about 8pm when I haven't yet eatenValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I will eat any sort of soup or stew and make soup all year round I adore liver and bacon casserole, especially if I chuck some lentils or pearl barley in as well I use my slow cooker almost daily in the winter, and a 2 pint rice pudding done overnight in my SC with sultanas and cinnamon is a must for puddings it lasts me several days and gets whizzed up to warm in the microwave Thick gloopy custard is another must have. There is nothing to beat a good hearty stew done in the SC and filled with extra root veg and thick gravy its food of the Gods
a bowl of that will warm any tummy up

These days I make it like risotto and it is reasonably quick and turns out very well. Gonna make it this weekend for my little niece, she loves her auntie's sweet treats :AValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I’m weird I don’t like bread and butter pudding!
However I love a good crumble in the winter, rhubarb the fave.
A rib sticker is mince and dumplings and mash potatoes, gravy based sausage casserole is a winner here with veg and potatoes. Lentil soup for lunches. Im getting hungry here and its not even near lunchtime!
If its terrible weather outside and we cant get the to the shop a staple lunch is tinned tomato soup with bread as toast out of the freezer with Philadelphia cheese! Don’t knock till you try little islands of toast and phili floating on your tomato soup! I also have a draw in the freezer dedicated to being stuck at home without getting to the soup for a while. This needs sorting this weekend!0
