also http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ - again check out the clearance bit. Their customer service is excellent - very fast delivery too. If you're going to do lots it can work out cheaper to buy a chart and thread separately but don't be tempted to buy cheap threads - it's very frustrating

    I get loads on ebay.
Also with the mags sometimes its cheaper to buy the mag and then buy the materials to do the one you like rather than buying kits.

All I will say is don't throw away left over threads from kits. Im doing a tatty ted pic from a mag at the moment and Im using up leftover threads from kits and it looks like I should have plenty of the threads to do this:D So all this pic has really cost is fabric (which I already had in my stash):D

also I have used these guys, they are really good and quite often even with postage from the states it still cheaper than buying in the UK.

    http://www.123stitch.com/

this is a good UK site and quite often has really good offers on
    http://www.collectorcraft.co.uk/index.php

and here are some freebie sites so all it will cost is the threads and fabric

    Hi,

I know it's not exactly what you're asking for but I have Jane Greenhoff's Cross Stitch Gold for the computer - I think it was about £15 a few years ago. There are loads of motifs in the programme - including colour charts and you can also scan in your own images to turn them into cross stitch, again with the colour charts. It is well worth the money imo.

I would also like to echo razra - NEVER throw away any bits of threads! Get yourself one of those craft boxes with compartments, and some 'cardboard/plastic bobbins' for keeping your threads neatly wound. Some kind of small container for your embroidery needles (I've got an old plastic see-through mint box - forgotten the name of the mints!). Also worth buying some remnants of cross-stitch fabric in various sizes. All my needlecraft stuff is stored in a very old insulated plastic picnic box that had lost its insulation in a move about 20 years ago.

Here's another website that may be useful to you. They appear to have a free print-off design each month.

Not sure how good this one is - only managed a quick glance but it may be worth your while having a nosey. It appears that there are quite a few sites with free cross stitch motifs.

    hi there

On the keeping all your spare threads..if you get really hooked this is what i do ..its a normal folder, but the plastic pages you get from collectors shops -they are for coins cards..it means you can have ally our threads in numerical order -plus it keeps them clean
    folderaq8.th.jpg

and i can't get on with those card thread holders as i get in a right old tangle.. if you get some bank bags and write the number and symbol on and pop 1 thread in each and stand them up in an old ice cream/butter tub-it makes life sooo much easier..and it keeps the threads clean and if you have children it means you can keep your kit in one tub and whack the lid on when they need you..

Can you tell who is a x stitch addict :o speaking of which i had better get back to it..just broke off for a nosey on here :D

MrsMcawber - love your coin collectors storage idea - it's brilliant :T . I'm another one who can't manage those cards thread storage thingies. Besides that, they seem to attract my cat when he sees all the loose threads dangling  .
