These calls are the only ones I get on my landline, wish I could say the same for my mobile. As mentioned above dial 1572 & follow the instructions. I have never been in the directory (so not actually ex-directory) & have TPS. This call by an automated voice just starts off "this call is forwarded from BT & your broadband will be terminated in 24 hours bla bla bla...". It is very annoying obviously but it is the only junk call I ever get on my landline, anything else is from a business that I have had dealings with in the past.
  • I have ordered the BT handset from Amazon and it will screen calls for me and so will hopefully help stop the nuisance of them Thanks everyone for all your help

P.S. managed to get it for £32.95 post free as well :)

Thank you for all your replies I am with virgin and they say there is little they can do as its an automated call.I think I will invest in the BT handset though if only to stop the pesky calls

That says it all - VIRGIN. They take nothing serious. I've waited years for them to sort out the problem with spam emails on my ntlworld.com email accounts and I'm still waiting - they're useless.
It's only laziness that stops me informing everyone of our other gmail addresses which get zero spam emails.
  • Why are Virgin responsible for the spam emails that you receive?
  • I haven't used an ntlworld email account for years, but I have several others. The only one that doesn't let any spam through its filters is gmail. Get a free gmail account and forward everything to it.

I certainly won't get into an argument with you about my statement, except. Although I have been with VM, NTL and all previous guises going back 25 years. They used to use another email system filtering system which I believe was google based. They dropped that system and went their own way and filter emails themselves.
I appreciate that having an email address for that long will have introduced my details into many forwarding companies but. Two of the 3 email account we have a very rarely used for outgoing messages but all 3 accounts receive the same spam every day, sometimes up to 30 emails.
Without being over technical , I assume it's VM responsibility to filter out all the spam like gmail does.
If I'm wrong tell me why.

Why do you think it's the email provider's responsibility to identify :spam: emails? Unless it's defined in their T&Cs then their only responsibility is to ensure correctly-addressed emails are passed to your account.

OK, I'm most probably wrong. I have just found that in the last year the amount of spam I've received on my virgin account (ntlworld.com) is very high. Conversely the opposite applies to our gmail accounts.
I therefor wrongly assumed that it can be identified and prevented (filtered) from being sent on to the intended recipient.
    I concede I am wrong.

You are not wrong.....It can be identified and prevented, however, that is not necessarily the ISPs responsibility.
You don't say how you access your emails. You can use the likes of Thunderbird or eMClient etc and look at using
    MailWasher, or Spamihilator
    to sort your spam.
All that said, just stop being lazy (your words) and change over completely to gmail. You can have gmail pick up your emails from Virgin during the transission.....It's not really a major task to change.
