Best way round Birmingham?

On Friday we will be coming down the M69, then M6 and need to go to Halesowen, should we head north or south way round?

North unless you want to end up on the M1.

May depend on the time you are traveling. Friday afternoon is a "bad" time to travel around Brum. I would "google" map on the day and check for any hold-ups.

In general the North route is "shorter" by about 8 miles. Problem will be road works going North and going South the M40 Junction is always a bottleneck particularly in the rush hour....if in doubt leave as early as you can...

The M40 joins neither the M6 or M69.

Yes but if you are going South the M6 joins the M42 which does meet the M40....or at least it did the last time I went that way, but it may have been moved due to HS2 or brexit by now...

Going south on the M6 from the M69 and you're going the wrong way for the M42.

Dont go north it will be grid locked before Brum on M6 close to M42, guaranteed till junction 14.

Better off M69 to M6 West and get on M42 South till the end where it joins M5. Halesowen turn going north will be a few mile ahead short of where the traffic is.
Better going morning and away by 12.

Don't confuse the OP, West will be signed M6 North.

The OP realises that you need to go north on the M6 from the M69 junction to head towards Birmingham. They are just asking whether it is best to go around the north or south side of Birmingham to get to Halesowen from the M6.

OP: check the traffic before you leave. If possible have one of your travelling companions check the traffic while on route. The M42 will likely be slow. The roadworks at M42 J3 are a big hold up. The M42 south was usually pretty unpleasant before they started as well. The roadworks M5 J1-J2 slow that M5 down. The M6 north past Birmingham is often bad as well. It is likely to be slow whichever way you go.

..I would agree with you but then we would both be wrong.....

..never mentioned going South down the M6....the OP wanted to know whether to go North or South around Brum...and while I was traveling the same route for the last few weeks I always went around Brum to the South by using the M69, M6 followed by the M42 ?
