Do retailers notice which bank card you use?

Ahh, yeah, she's a bit of a lass. She always smiles at me as well, and my card's nothing special.0

When I worked in a well known quality high street retailer as a student, I was impressed by gold or platinum cards - as they were very new then and we'd only just started taking cards.
Until they gave me one some years later and I realised that all it said about you was that you were a mug that owed lots of money.0 -
If it's a large chain store, they will be more interested in signing you up for their card.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

They never see my card now as I don't hand it over. They don't need to see it as we no longer use signature verification.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Indeed. The till operator hardly ever handles the card - they will, usually, only catch a glimpse of part of it (as you're holding it and/or it's inside the machine) - and that's if they're bothering to look, which they probably aren't.
So, in answer to the OP's question, they don't notice as they don't see it. 10 years ago maybe. Not now.
(unless there's a problem and they take it from you and wipe it on their sleeve to magically make it work)0 -
Agree with the above.
These days they probably don't even see the card when it is put into the chip/pin terminal.
In the past, when the card was handled and looked at by the merchant, perhaps although the satisfaction at presenting a high end card was probably more in the mind of the person presenting the card.
One exception may be when checking in to an expensive hotel; presneting a Vanquis card may not be viewed as favourably as presenting an Amex.
Also presenting too high end a card can get a reaction different to what may be expected. An AMEX black charge card was once presented in a major high street electrical goods retailer back in swipe and sign days. The assistant called out to his collegue 'have you see one of these; and the card was passed around for the staff to inspect/admire/whatever. Or, when presenting an Amex black charge card in a small restaurant which accepted Amex, 'Don't you have a mastercard or visa. Amex charge us too much commission' Two true occurences.0 -

And now people are waving their "Hot Coral" (bright pink) Monzo cards as a status symbol

Many years ago in Smalltown America I proffered my credit card which had a picture of an avocet on it. The young lady in the motel was most impressed & showed it to everyone else. She then went on to ask what money we use in England & what language we speak. I tried to explain but I think it was too much for her to take in.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Why would they even care?
Regardless of card they get their money for their goods.
I pay by gift card at Tesco. Its part of a corporate membership which gives me 4 or 5% cashback. I really couldnt care less if they looked down on me because of it.0
