  • i stopped using Norton last month after my computer got a update from them and then ate my hard drive. i lost everything there was no data left on my PC hard drive. put in my backup disk which i had saved fro0m backup with acer. this disk is supposed to reinstall everything. did not work. could not get the computer to go any further than the acer boot menu.
lucky i tried the windows vista update disk (came with the pc to update to vista ultimate for a price you pay online)on my other laptop and found out that it had a version of vista home premium on it. so i installed it and thank god it worked on the pc.had computers now for 5yrs so i have a little bit of knowledge.
before finding this i had just packed the computer up into the box it had come in and was going to take it back to pc world and get a new one (only 3months old 1st brand new computer)norton came on the pc.90 day trail
i used to trust norton but the limited times you can install it on a PC after it crashes even worse if it gives Ur PC a virus and the computer dies after a update.
now i use mcafee and not had a problem for the last two months.
:rotfl: given up on tesco do a lot os boots offers. but weekends are now in orange trackside b. lol
now a race marshal at silverstone.

Anyone who says Norton Internet Security is OK either

    a) Hasn't tried anything else on the same equipment or
    b) Doesn't have a computer more than a year old or
    c) Thinks that expensive advertising and a strong brand name counts as a measure of product quality.

Oh and if its discounted so much - what is the reason - trouble selling it at full price ?

Have to say I dont agree with everything above. I use Norton on a 4 year old Athlon 2000 with 512mb ram as well as on a hi-spec Vista pc and havent experienced problems with either. I feel it is less intrusive than other security programs I have used and has a more slickly designed and user freindly intrerface than say AVG, Avast or Zone Alarm. I have never in over 10 years had a virus that the software has not caught or dealt with and Ive visited some pretty dodgy sites in my time:rolleyes: . I will agree that previous versions were a system hog but that is not the case now. The only time it slows is when its doing a full system scan which I do in the middle of the night so it doesnt affect me.

I dont doubt that you had trouble with your clients PC and that that experience has put you off but for every bad experience such as yours there is a good one such as mine.

Lastly, the big stores use low prices like that as loss leaders to draw people into the store. They are often sold at less than they pay for them but this price is more than likely to be dropping because Nortons would rather promote Norton360 rather than Internet Security now. Also to say the price reflects the quality of the product must surely be invalid if the products that you are comparing it to are provided free.

Dont mean to go on but I often hear this negativity about Norton and feel it is based on peoples experiences of much older products. If you would like great all round protection then a 3 user license for £20 is an absolute bargain. No I dont work for Nortons:D

Another thing-you will have to renew subscription £20 is just for 1 year.
The current PC world ad claiming it can stop theft of Personal information, ie playing on the recent HM gov !!!! up is a disgrace it cant do any such thing it should be banned!
  • My Norton incidentally ran out yesterday.

I am currently downloading AVG Anti Viurus and Zone Alarm Firewall, both free licence off https://www.download.com.

Yes much much better. Do not rely on windows firewall. YOu must have 3rd party software for this.

I think the suubscription is closer to £40. I always find it cheaper to buy the latest version rather than subscribe again. You can usually find OEM versions (no booklets or OTT packaging - just a CD) for about £18.

Have to agree with the second statement. No software protects you from ID theft and Dixons are certainly playing on peoples fears which is a disgrace.

Don't install the alternatives until you have fully removed Norton using their removal tool.
