Options
I have a pre paid Thomas cook MasterCard with quite a few euros on it. If Thomas cook goes under will I lose my euros or are they safe?

    Short answer no.
  • Not what I really wanted to hear. Would my travel insurance cover my loss?

Is this not underwritten by MasterCard?

Isn't it just a branded card, which can be used anywhere?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
  • You need to ask your travel insurance. Could you not go to store and ask for them to transfer the euros on the card into your bank account? As in - ask them to buy them back?

  • It says MasterCard on it, I had it from a Thomas cook shop travel agent, it's to take to Spain in october.
  • Thomas cook have now closed all their foreign exchange in the shops. They must have known a few months ago things were not so good! Will take it with me and try to use it. If unable I have another card.
  • It is a MasterCard, with Thomas cook on it as well. I will take it with me and if denied. Will use another card. I cannot be the only person with one. Thomas cook closed their foreign exchange in the shops a few months ago!

Is there a number on the back of the card. Maybe ring them and ask.

Surely, if you've paid £x to TC which they've converted into X euros (for a commission/fee) and loaded on the card...it's a done deal and MasterCard will honour the balance.

    How much is on there?
